Hi! I am on Lexapro, started it about 9 months ago. And my sex drive is like non-existent. (This has happened before when I was on other anti-depressants to see what worked. I am very sensative to anti-depressants, so Lexapro is the first one I've been tolerating very well.)
I've also in the past experienced a lot of physical pain with intercourse, been to the GYN several times-and everythings ok. I'm thinking it's associated with the fibromyalgia and I have a latex allergy. (My husband is going to get a vasectomy next month- we decided we do not want kids. This will sovle the birth control option, but not my low sex drive.) What can I do about the sex drive? The only time I see to have desire is during my menstural cycle. Does anyone have any tips?

Are you currently on hormonal contraceptives?

I've always said that if any side effect bothered me more than I can tolerate, I speak up and demand a med tweaking. Your sexuality is a part of your well-being, is what the Lexapro gives you worth the loss of sex drive to you. Weigh that question for yourself and speak with your doc about your concerns.

I think that talking to your doctor is good advice. Your sexuality is an important part of you and it is ok to ask for a medical change if Lexapro inhibits it. Your sexuality is an important part of your marriage. Sexual intimacy is an essential in maintainiong a healthy marriage and relationship with the man you love

No, I am not. I ended up going off birth control pill (after trying several others) because it increased the PMDD symptoms.

It sure sounds hormonal to me -- if you have a sex drive during your period when your hormones are raging, and you don't when you're off your period, obviously it has to do with hormones.
Perhaps you could use some hormone cream -- ask the doctor about it. Ask him about anything to do with hormones. Tell him about your sex drive during your period. That should explain it to him. Best of luck and God bless ! Hugs, Lee ![]()

Wellbutrin, an AD in its own class, helps some people with the low sex drive.
