I just got off an antibiotic less than a week ago and I'm getting a yeast infection (this is apparently common). My mother's been on antibio's alot and her gyno advised her to take Acidophilus--2 pills I believe--with every meal... it not only helps the side effects of the medication itself but nips yeast infections in the bud. She also said you can't overtake the Acidophilus.

***Once you open the bottle--buy it anywhere--you have to refrigerate it, why I dunno.***

Anyway just wanted to share that. I've done the OTC stuff for yeast infections and they've rarely worked. Plus the Acidophilus is natural, from what I'm told.

Yes very common side effect, and just such a lovely gift of the antibiotic to keep on giving. Oh how love it so.;( However, thank you for sharing this tip about the acidophilus as did not know it could come in pill form; this IS much appreciated, thank you!!

May have jumped the gun a little.

Apparently taking the Acidolphilus while on the antibiotic lowers the chances of yeast infectinos. However, I was taking the Acidolph while on the antibiotic , and several days after--when the infection started--and it seems to be helping.

Just FYI,

I drink Kefir while taking antibiotics (and for two weeks after finishing the antibiotic) to keep yeast infections at bay ... I just had minor surgery back on October 18th and picked up several quarts when I picked up the antibiotic ... I just finished the last quart about 15 minutes ago ... Kefir is a cousin of yogurt, but it has more probiotics (including acidophilus) so it packs an extra punch ... It's Gluten Free & 99% Lactose Free Too ... !!!

Yeast infection zapper.

Mmm ... Good Stuff ... !!!

And, Hooray ... !!! ... NO Yeast Infection ... !!!

Thanks for this!

I drink the same brand, but without added sugar/flavor, just plain. And, all the time. Every day, unless I am SO stressed out that I forget this most basic building block of self-care. It is not just to avert yeast infections - it is also to build up immunity, and I never come down with respiratory infections.
