Just curious if anyone else here has had this problem??
I'm on the abilify to reduce SI, which does work pretty well in that department. However, it's caused major munchies for sweets ~ and cereals. I've gained 10 lbs in the past month since beginning the med. ![]() ![]() Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I'm going to start taking the med only once per week, due to it's super-long half life. Just hoping that doing that will reduce these hormonal troubles, but keep away the SI. Anyone know?? ![]()

I've never noticed those effects with Abilify. Then again, I might need to pay more attention to what it does when I take it.

What's happening? A bottle of Abilify has been on my shelf for over a month, and I am still afraid to reach for it to try this medicine. I am primarily afraid of akathisia, to be sure, but I do want to know about weight gain, too.

I know the commercials (haven't seen any recently) said that Abilify can raise blood sugar, so you're supposed to be monitored by your doctor. I have refused to take Abilify for this reason, although I've since been told meds I'm on do that, too. I have been eating much more sugar lately, and I'm scared to death I'm going to get diabetes. I keep saying this, so I'm sorry for those who have read my posts whining about my sugar addiction, but I have to get off the sugar!

Maven, try adding Metformin - better safe than sorry. It is a very old medication which is cheap even without insurance. Might even lead to some weight loss in some people.

I assume I'd need a prescription, but it so happens that I have an appointment with my doctor today. Maybe I should ask her. My boyfriend has diabetes and is on Metformin. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, it is a prescription med. I have a prescription from my endocrinologist, but perhaps a GP can prescribe as well.

I mentioned the Metformin to my boyfriend, and he adamantly said NO! He said the side effects are bad, and would put me at risk of low blood sugar. He says you only take it if you're diagnosed with diabetes. Just gotta get control of my sugar!

Positive side effect - I am now able to drink tea without sweetener as I could when I was a child. Before Metformin, I had to use sweetener. People increasingly take it to prevent diabetes. My blood sugar is normal and my endocrinologist prescribed Metformin even though my blood sugar before Metformin was borderline low - 71 (the normal range is 70-100) |

Thanks, Hamster! I will mention it to my doctor when I go on the 27th. I was supposed to go--was on my way, in fact--on the 11th, but my car broke down on the way!!! $1097 later, my car has four new tires, new radiator hose, an oil change, and one or two other things. If only I can be fixed so good!

I know, I wish we could be taken to the dealership for repairs! I would ask for breast shape restoration, and you would chime in as well, I think.
