So I've had a crush on my coworker for nearly a year now. However, he's been one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had in a crush. We've only had one legitimate conversation and that was an unwanted three hour "recruitment" for the Peace Corps. That's not to say I never tried to have conversations with him. In fact, I try having a conversation with him every time he comes into work (he only comes a couple times a week). I've tried try getting him to talk about himself, I've tried talking about myself, but he blows me off and ignores me. I've even tried playful/flirtatious talk and he stops it dead-cold. At first, I thought he was just socially awkward, but I see him have conversations other people at work and it makes me mad that he'll talk to anyone else but me. I've talked to my other coworkers and they tell me they try to avoid him or that they've never had a conversation with him either.

So yesterday was our end of the year carnival and we were wrapping things up. We were getting everything gathered up to take back to storage and we were all in our main classroom. I wanted to check my email and he was just sitting in the chair not using it, so I playfully asked him if I could use the computer and pulled the chair away from the computer and he gave me a stern look. So I said playfully, "you're boring." And he just stared at me sternly. When I was done, I tried asking him the things I usually ask him to try to get a conversation going. Then he said something that really set me back. He said "Are you attention-seeking today? Are you looking for attention?" I was shocked, so I said, "Yes, particularly your attention." Then he gave me a dirty look and said, "Well, sorry, I don't know what to say. What do you want from me?" And then I mumbled, "A decent conversation..." and then he dropped the conversation altogether.

I feel really angry. I don't suspect he knows I even like him considering he doesn't even bother to get to know me or anyone else at the site. He came close to calling me an attention ***** out loud but that's basically what he just told me. I just needed to vent. I don't know if I'm going to see him during summer school but I don't know what I'm going to say if I see him.

If you are good at reading body language, then you can determine the best approach. If not, diplomacy is the best policy, as I believe in minimizing the potential risks at work with stress. e.g. A romance at work that breaks down is a sort of gossip entertainment, so much so that fees should be paid to those involved as subjects of such gossip.

Personally I would forget about the crush & leave him alone just like the others do.

He was just plain rude to you, which is disrespectful in and of itself. I wouldn't waste time on someone who couldn't at least be polite or engage in a pleasant conversation. Even if he wasn't interested in you in that way, he could still be civil.
Anyway, hugs to you...you deserve better.
