Daughter's first period - pads?

My youngest (age 11) just started her first period. She is thrilled! I'm happy for her and heartbroken at the same time.

My oldest (age 22) dropped off a partial package of pads until I can go to the store. They are the Always Overnight pads and are huuuge.

We aren't sure what to buy, she is a small girl, there's no telling how heavy her flow will be, and she doesn't have the experience to know what will work best.

Any suggestions about what to buy for her?

I have 3 daughters and they all started their periods at the age of 12, I buy the always night too as I find the first 2-3 days is when their flow is the heaviest and I also buy the always normal for when their periods are lighter, My youngest who is now 15 is very small for her age she is okay with always night.

It is scary for a mother and also for the child too, (((hugs to your daughter))))

((BadGirlBlues and daughter)) - I know exactly how you feel because I have 2 daughter 15/11 and my 11 yr old started hers 4 months ago. She was very upset because of the big change - I already made sure she knew about it years prior. I went to the drugstore and found her pads for her size and this made it so much more acceptable for her. They're called Kotex for Tweens and they're smaller in length. They come individually wrapped in cool colors with a little booklet, website, educational info and a calendar. This made her feel much better. I understand your sadness because its hard seeing your 11 yr old reaching womanhood.

The 1st day I gave her my 15 yr old pads and she cried because they were too long. Then I ran to the drugstore and got these ones. They come as a combo, liner and pads or just pads. Here's what the box looks like:

The tween ones are bit more expensive but its worth it for my daughter to feel better about this time in her life. My 15 yr old loves the Always Infinity because they absorb well, but are thinner /more comfortable. If it makes my daughters more comfortable, I don't mind buying them the more pricey ones compared to the store brands. My 11 yr old loves the Kotex Tween colors, size and the little booklet that reassured her its okay. Make sure it says for Tweens on the box. Happy we could help.

I started at 11 too, and wow, I was not thrilled!

Anyway, I know my gyno advised against Always products and said they could be more irritating "down there" than other brands, so I never use them. Kotex is probably a safer bet overall.

My almost 11 year old just started her period too. I bought her the kotex tween pads and she seems to be ok with them (FYI - she is VERY small. about 4'5" and 65 pounds)

I wish they would have had the tween pads even my girls were young. Good luck!

Take her with you shopping. A lot of people i know used tampons when they first got it and prefer that.

Thatwould certainly have been the best way, but she wouldn't go out wearing the big overnight pad she had on, she was convinced it would show.

Those are my favorites as well (and I'm in my 30's). Tampons have never been comfortable for me to wear, so I've become super picky about my pads and the Always Infinity are my current favorite.
