I'll be 53 in February and my periods are just as regular as they were when I was 33... Every month like clockwork... tick tick tick tick ...

My mother and grandmother both went through menopause when they were 52. For my mother it was a horrible experience, and my sisters and I would often make fun of her when she would have a hot flash in some very chilly environment. (Now that we are older we realize how mean that was). I remember that there were times when she would get a very very heavy period for two weeks or longer! My sisters and I were blessed with horribly strong hormones that turn us into living devils once a month, and for her, that devilness would linger for a lot longer than usual. There were a lot of times when she thought she was done for good, but then another one would show up. So I might suggest to always prepared, even if you think you're done.
Since you don't know when you'll go through it, I might suggest to look for signs such as very unusually long periods (mine are about 7 days, but I also have endometriosis). Look for hot flashes and unusual cravings. Once these start it will take about a few months to a year before they will stop for good.
I'm sorry about the heavy and long periods, I completely understand that. Before I was on bc, I used to go through an ultra tampon and a pad every hour! But hang in there, it will happen eventually.

I believe it is vaguely related to when you started, the younger you were the longer it goes on! It is only vaguely inherited too, can't tell much from what one's mother/sister went through. I started when I was close to 13 and was done my year by 51 I think it was (forget now, not good; doctors/hospitals ask you forever!). It is hard to do the "year" when stops; one has to not have a period for a year and that means one is through, and trying to keep track how long (it often stops for like 4, 5, 6 months and then you get a period, very maddening as then you have to "start over" counting the year). I still remember when my stepmother was surprised and had bleeding that went through her panties and onto the floor and she was trying to quickly clean each drop up but, of course, the next drop would drop before she could clean up the previous :-) Finally I made her go take care of herself, "I'll clean up here!"

I'm 51 and still have perfectly regular periods. If I were to guess, I'd say I'll be in my mid/late 50's when I go through menopause. btw, you certainly can get pregnant if you're still having periods.

Not a 100%, but I'd say, go by June and use August as the double check month.
Then mid-January came along, and.... well, the clock resets.

For future reference, my doctor's office says the same thing. It could be a light period, but I don't count it unless I have to use protection, or it goes on for at least a full day.
