My GP is talking about putting me on hormones. Frankly the idea scares me a bit, so I've been doing a bit of research into bioidentical hormones, and I like the idea from the little I read. Can anyone recommend any good scientific based books or websites where I can find more information, or does anyone have any experience?

Thanks.

Anyone know anything about bioidentical hormones

One girlfriend of mine, who lives at a distance now, but also on Facebook, takes them and she has done really well with them, both physically and visually. Don't think it's been cheap tho or that in her case insurance has covered much. She's been doing this for about five years and can afford it and watches her health. She looks amazing. She got interested in it from reading Suzanne Sommers but I know has also done some more scientific research. I understand that compounding bioidentical hormones are coming more into mainstream medicine now, as well. Good luck, sorry I don't know any more than that!

I'm on bio identical hormones and have no problem. My doctor/gyno is a very respected expert in the field and she doesn't believe that even after menopause women should be without hormones. She believes that all women should take them and just because nature has taken it's course or you've had a hysterectomy that you should be without them because hormones effect every part of your body. If you google Integrative a Medical Group of Irvine, I think you will be able to read a part of the book she is writing on "Menopause Mastery".

I've just stopped using them. It was a very weird eperience. Bottom line -- I started having pains in my legs which signaled thrombosis. There are studies that transdermal estrogen can increase this risk. I tried lowering the dosage and started getting hot flashes - where I had none before. I then tried the normal dosage, but reduced the number of days used. Problem improved, but was never completely went away.

Doc is switching me to birth control pills (which I have used sucessfully before, with no problems) hopefully will get the benefit of them.
