I was told at my last Pap test that I have genital warts. I've been reading up on it but I'm still confused about a few things and wondered if anyone knew about it since apparently 3 out of 4 sexually active people will get it at some point in their lives. I didn't know it was that common.

1) if I have warts, does that mean I have hpv?
2) am I at risk of getting cancer?

Any info is much appreciated !

Your doc will call it HPV if it is, and tell you which strain it is, the dangerous one or one of the many others. The doc will also step up the schedule of pap smears if there is a danger of cervical cancer. Just ask for clarification.
Hope that helps.

He didn't seem worried, I think basically said its not a big deal so it makes me think it's not the dangerous cancer causing type...but still worries me :/
