Any of you ladies conceal-carry

We don't have guns in my country, but I'd never hide a knife or anything; I'd probably just run.

Curious to two responses about defending without using deadly force if someone, say, breaks into your home...what if they have a gun? How would you defend yourself?

Sorry if I make anyone feel defensive as that's not my intentions. I guess I'm just curious.

Or, someone comes up to you to rape you maybe after carjacking your car or when you are walking someplace you really wish you weren't but given the circumstances ended up being in a dangerous place?

I don't know about anyone else....but if it's between me or them getting the worst end of the situation....I would rather it be them. I would rather NOT depend on anyone else to take care of me in critical situations where TIME DOES COUNT. No one cares about me like I do.

I don't have a gun yet just because I haven't gotten around to the training first.....after my experience with a bow & arrow when I was in Junior High....shot it at the target & it flew over the house.....my aim isn't that good at least NOT with a bow & arrow.....but when it comes to life or death....I'm sure my aim would be a whole lot more right on.

People that break into homes typically fall into two categories. The larger is robbery. The other is rape. Robbers don't want conflict. They want to get the goods and leave. They look for times when you are not home. So when they are confronted they typically run. I would avoid confrontation if I could. No material goods are worth it. Somebody did case my building last year. They broke into my neighbors place. Why? Because she hadn't taken precautions with her window which is floor level, old and obscured. Nobody else has obscured windows or they are home bound/work at home. She has the least valuable stuff too. Rape is much rarer in the place I live. One reason I live here. I also am not stupid about locks and alarms. I take precautions. The risk of rape or a violent robber is too low to justify having a gun around.

In college I lived in a seedy section. Crack house across the street. A federal task force a few buildings down. I took extra precautions there like crossing the street if I was at all uncomfortable or taking a cab at night if necessary. Although I didn't know as much about the neighborhood as I should have I chose a less vulnerable apartment. I was in a situation where my instinct flag went into red zone. I was alert enough to not get too close. Sure, I was lucky too. All things being equal I still wouldn't pack a gun.

EDIT: we know they cased the place because somebody saw strangers hanging around. At least now they know to take a picture if they don't feel comfortable asking them to leave. That would have let them know people are aware.

Recently we have had numerous home invasions in the area where I live. Two men severely beat an 88 y/o woman. She survived but she will never talk or walk again. In another incident intruders killed a 90 y/o man. These were not people who lived in bad neighborhoods. They lived in what was thought to be good neighborhoods.

Think you'll never have to fight for your life and you'll never need a gun? When I was younger I thought that too; I was wrong.

I am very much a statistics person. "Numerous" doesn't really convince me the odds justify living a life with all the responsibilities and risks of having a gun. I don't want to live my life like that. When I move to a war zone I will reconsider but like I said, I hope I never feel the need.

A debate in this topic could get very heated. I was asked what I would do. Answered.

I don't carry but I have them at the house. I inherited them from my family when they passed. I know about safely using and caring for the rifles as took a but not the handguns, which are from WWII in working order though. I know I cannot move those from the house as I do not have a permit and will not be able to get one given my history despite being stable.

As pathetic as this sounds..one of the pressing things I do not know is that can anyone take a safety course or does mental history preclude from even doing this? Are the sessions purely informational, general safety, or do they teach you about your own guns? I want to keep them for self defense but want to make sure I can safely use them.

I want to cc just haven't had the time or money.

I just recently took a concealed carry class. I'm saving up money to get the lifetime license, which is $500 here. I love going target shooting with my boyfriend who was in law enforcement and knows his guns.

In my state if you have been hospitalized for a psychiatric disorder you can not own/carry a gun. Even if I could own one I probably wouldn't. I used to carry a knife and I had it taken from me then used against me so I don't feel that weapons are that safe anymore.

Nope! Don't want the Gov. to know If I have (some) . My theory is that if they ever mange to outlaw, they'll start knocking on the doors on that list before they visit the violent offenders homes.

I read an article today on all the countries that outlawed guns like Germany with Hitler....no self defense then they rounded up the those they choose to discriminate against including the mentally ill & executed them.......millions of people over the centuries have been lost to that same kind of government action. Not that a small concealed weapon would make any difference in a situation like that.....but I still believe that self defense is vital to our own well being male & female alike
