I am a 56 year old female and I believe I am all the way through menopause. I have had depression and emotional issues as far back as I can remember. I have been in treatment and on medication on and off for the last 25 years. I have a question someone may or may not be able to answer.
I think a lot of my depression was linked to or affected by my hormones, though I never had any female problems or hormonal issues. But, I did have severe post-partum depression 20 years ago after the birth of my youngest child. I actually feel I never really recovered from it. My question is, does having gone through menopause affect one's predisposition to depression? I am currently recovering from a round of severe depression, and am doing as well as can be expected. Please tell me that when those pesky hormones are out of the picture I can expect some relief! |

My pdoc told me last time I saw her that women who had post pardon are likely bipolar. Thought that was interesting. However only that interesting tid-bit I can only share. Are you on any medication for depression now? Talk to your doctor about some changes and see what happens, if you are.

Yes, I just re-started my meds. I have not been diagnosed as bi-polar. I have mood swings, but I don't think they are extreme enough for that.

Hi IrisBlossom,i'm truebliever and I'm 53 yr.I've been in menopause sense I was 30 having to have everything taken out.I never took hormones.I honestly don't think you bi polar, you may just have a chemical in balance.I always had a little nerves, but in jan 2014 I started having anxiety. There was a lot going on.I have a special needs adult daughter who has seizures, and a husband who has health issues also. You know as the wife and mother we are not supposed to have problems,as the main care giver.I tried a few meds, and all of them made me feel weird.I got off them,i do take a Ativan .05 mg.as needed.which is maybe once in a week or so.Please take care of yourself, take a few min to just listen to the quiet.I'll be praying for you.
