I have a large Fibroid that is painful and puts a lot of pressure on my bladder. The doctors have mentioned surgery. Anyone have experience with any of this?

I have one about 7 cm. I will have a test again in March to see if it got bigger or stayed the same size. Yes it does effect your bladdder sometimes. I am hoping not to have sugery because I am a high risk right now. 4 times on ventilator in a year and a half. So we are going with the wait and see process.

I have a fibroid that gives me problems also. The doctors want me to have a hyst but I am holding off on that. I am afraid to have the surgery.......my sisters also had fibroids and both have had hyst's. They tell me they are so glad. They both say this is the best they have felt in years. For me....not so sure..

Why did you have to be on a ventilator?

I'm nervous about surgery also because i don't react well to the anethesia.

I had uterine fibroids removed by D&C. I had pelvic discomfort and post-menopausal irregular bleeding. The surgery was a breeze. It took care of my bleeding and discomfort.

A few months later I had Whipple surgery (abdominal/pancreas) and that was difficult.

Be sure to tell the surgeon and anesthesiolgist how you react to anesthesia. I get nauseas, so they give me something to counteract that. Now, no more post-surgical nausea. Very nice. It just came up during the pre-op visit with the anesthesiologist; I didn't know that there are different anesthesia drugs and ways to counteract nausea.

? for you, is your fibriod inside or outside you uterous?

I had an ovarian cyst when I was 19... I know not a fibriod so my situation is different...

But it did put incredible pressure on my bladder.. The thing was the size of a large cantalope - I was 115LBs and 5' 5" and looked 6 months pregant.

Prior to discovery of the cyst, I had constant bladder infections.. over a year's worth of being completely down and out..

So may I suggest, that you try drinking crandberry juice? If you are having pressure, it might start making it hard for your bladder to fully void - without you realizing it.

The crandberry juice makes the envirmonent in your bladder non conductive to bacteria.

I had that surgery last Feburary 2006. I had four tumors. One in my uterous that weighed 1500grams, one on each ovary and one in the north pole of my right kidney. They surgery went great..... I am now in surgical menapause. That is hard.... I had a total abdominal hysterectomy, tubes, ovaries , uterous and cervex

You can google this and find other solutions, one is where they put blocks about the size of rice kernals into the vein that feeds the fibroid causing it to shrink. High estrogen also feeds them, especially synthetic estrogen I think. Menopause will also cause them to shrink (less estrogen.)

I had a hysterectomy at 35 due to very large fibroid tumors.

It was the BEST thing I ever did!!!!


They did leave my ovaries, since I was relatively young and have had no problems at all!!
