Anyone here have PCOS? I have almost all the symptoms except I'm not losing hair Nd becoming furry elsewhere. Going to the doc's Friday to be evaluated. I'd love to hear from women with PCOS!

I have had it since I was 16 - I am now 45. I have been on birth control most of that time. It took 3 years to get pregnant with my son and 5 years to get pregnant with a baby I miscarried. The infertility has been the hardest to deal with. I can get waxed, I can use BCP to regulate my period....

If you have specific questions, just ask.

Thanks for your reply! I'm worried my doctor won't take me seriously, and if it is PCOS, she won't do anything about it. I read about a medication called Glucophage (I think that's it) that helps a lot. I'd do anything to prove my mental and physical health at this point! And the acne. OMG, the acne. It's HORRIBLE. And where on earth did these 40 pounds come from??? I'm not doing anything differently!

Ok, enough of my rant. Lol I'm so glad you answered me. Thank you!!!

Metformin is the brand name of the med you mentioned. I was on it for 10 years and then my blood sugars were regulating themselves. Yeah, I still have acne at my age but it is not as bad due to my BCP.

I'm having my primary test me for diabetes this morning. My boyfriend (who's a paramedic) has been testing my glucose levels today, and they're definitely high. I just want answers.

I was diagnosed in my late 20's. I still deal with some acne at my age. I used to be on birth control pills to regulate my periods. Last summer I decided to stop and for the first time in my life my periods are coming regular. I've had some hair loss in my bang area and I pray I don't thin anymore. I also struggle with some facial hair, mostly on my chin. Every now and then I shave my side burn area. I suppose looking in a magnifying mirror makes it all look worse than it really is. The only med I take is spironolactone.

Have you had mental health issues due to PCOS? I have depression or bipolar 2 (they're not sure yet) and anxiety. I read that PCOS can cause depression, anxiety, and mood swings. Which would explain why my mental health is so crappy!

I've struggled off and on most my adult life with depression but I'm not sure if it is related to PCOS. Recently I've been dealing with anxiety and insomnia but that may come from being premenopausal.

It seems as though treating PCOS properly would involve a whole host of MD's!

I've always had depression and anxiety, but within the last five years things really started spiraling out of control. That's about when my weight started creeping up, although the REAL trouble started three years ago (since then I've gained 40 lbs, have the bad cystic acne, and now can't even work). Psych meds haven't really helped a whole lot, which is frustrating. My T helps more than anything.

I'm really grateful to you for answering my questions. Thank you!!!

I've had PCOS since 16. I've had trouble becoming pregnant, but now I've 2 kiddos and that's fine. No acne for me, but hairy all over, blah. I've very rare menstuation, I'm worried about sugar stuff, but none of the docs care about anything as far as I don't want to get pregnant again. I find it difficult to find a doc who is focused on supporting women after you expect to become pregnant. Most of the docs are so focused on infertility treatment. At least where I am and that's what bothers me the most now. Also the sever PMS but I have no idea whether it has anything to do with PCo.
Thanks for this!

Oh, and I have been on and of birth control. I would really love to use it to switch off menstruation to escape PMS, but I keep gaining weight and be depressive while on it so, it's no no for me.

This is exactly what I'm worried about! My primary won't touch it because he doesn't deal with "women's issues." I'm seeing my new gyno on Friday, but if infertility isn't the problem, I'm concerned that she won't listen to me. Sigh.

I was just diagnosed but have had symptoms for years. I take a birth control pill to help and have felt a lot better. Because I don't ovulate, my Dr told me I will probably need help when I want to get pregnant.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. My pdoc wanted me checked for PCOS and she was just plain mean. So with encouragement..I found a new gyno. Hes super nice! I never thought Id go to a male gyn but he rocks! he didn't treat me poorly and he did the tests needed to get my diagnosis. I feel so relieved and better now with treatment.

My advice...can you see someone else?

This is the second gyno I've seen in two weeks and my primary says he doesn't know anything about "female" problems, so no help there. I think I may be stuck. I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and put on metformin, which treats PCOS anyway. Hopefully it will help!

Thank you ladies! I have been evaluated twice with concerns of pcos and..... nothing. Maybe small cysts but hormone levels normal sugar normal. So I gave up. The last time I complained or irregular periods my doc asked how long I told him about.a year and he.says well if it's irregular all the.time then it is your normal.... aaahhh really??? Offered me bc pills but said he didn't recommend because I'm a smoker over 30 now... So frustrating. In the last 3 months my hair has thinned to about 1/2 it's normal- especially the front. I have to wax my lip every 2-3 weeks, pluck hairs off my chin and neck... and don't even want to mention the rest of the.hair issues.... I'm miserable and I'm making everyone around me miserable too riding rhe.roller coaster. Do you have suggestions on how to talk to my dr? I am going to try a new gyno asap since I have.already tried two different docs I feel like I'm not communicating right and I don't know what else to do. I even took a journal once... anyways thanks for the topic and reading my rant

When I saw a gyno for second opinion, we did a lot of talking about my symptoms. He also ordered lots of lab work and all mine was normal. I was diagnosed after a vaginal ultrasound to verify the cysts/follicles. I don't ovulate so I take a oral bc pill to have regular periods. It helps with the cramping too.
Thanks for this!
