Over the last year I have let my hair grow down past my shoulders. It is one length. It is very fine fly away hair and thin. It is summer here and very hot. I have no idea what to do with my hair. A pony tail looks more like a very small rats tail. A fringe doesn't suit me. Any suggestions? Some days I just want to shave it off......

Hi, I have the same problem, my hair is very very fine and thin. I want it long, I like it long, but like you it's just to thin to do much with. I should know by now (went through hairstyling school), but it took me years to find the right thing to do. Colouring it occasionally, or highlights, actually makes the hair thicker ( a little damage to it, and it opens up the hair so it can absorb conditioner and thickeners and mousse and such easier), but I don't do that often because it is hard on the scalp. Then an about shoulder length cut, with some layers but not many, to give it a lift. Blowdry it upside down to also help with some mousse, but not too much conditioner, it weighs the hair down. The front of my hairline is the worst so a long bang, but long enough I can put it up when it does finally get hot here. Hope that helps.
Oh, and please don't shave it off ... almost done that in frustration sometimes, I made it less than an inch long and was very disappointed, I still think having some length even though it is so fine is nicer than short, but if you ask a hairdresser they will tell you the shorter the better to make it seem thicker. Or don't do layers, but depends on how you want to style it. ok, had too much coffee today I think?
Thanks for this!

Not many people can look good with a bald head. Last night I wanted to cancel going to the hairdresser. I didn't want any layers.

So I ended up at the salon today. So now my hair is off my shoulders. She also put a couple of layers around the bottom. She advised me not to blow dry my hair but to pat it with a towel and then scrunch some mousse into it. Then let it dry naturally.

I am not sure about this new look. Least I can feel the wind around my neck.
She said I could get some foils done to add color but the trade off is more damage to my dry hair.

At least I got my hair cut and it feels better.

Can there ever be too much coffee???

good for you for going for it! I'm sure it looks great. I too have thin fine hair. Right now it is on the long side. I tend to go for years between cuts because I get really anxious about it. The other weekend I impulsively cut some bangs on myself because i just wanted a change. Luckily they don't look too horrible lol. Enjoy your new look. The good thing is it always grows back

Mine is horribly thin and fine. I keep it short with highlights and it helps it look fuller and not stringy!

Mine's thin as well. Had to get it cut due to damage. I like keeping it long.

Same problem here and last year I tried growing my hair long and it would look stringy and would not hold a curl long. So I've gone back to a shorter style with layers to give my hair volume.

I use mouse and a hair dresser told me once not to use gel because it would weigh my hair down. I like to use a very small amount of gel because I think it holds my style longer.
Thanks for this!
