Bras are so frustrating. I find sports bras to be most comfortable, but they don't do much for 'lift and separate'. I absolutely cannot stand underwire bras. I can't understand why there aren't more bras made of cotton or hemp, but with some shape to them.

^^ I miss cotton bras too. I miss cotton anything, really. On the weekend I was wearing a bra that became so itchy, it was like I'd just had my hair cut and all the little hairs had fallen onto my boobs. It was just the bra's synthetic fabric on a warm day. Clean bra, freshly showered person, but just itcho-ramma.

Exactly, Tea Biscuit...I've never understood why most bras are made of fabric that makes you hot and sweaty. It's not only uncomfortable, it seems unhealthy to me.

There are cotton and hemp bras on etsy, but most are very small and very, very expensive.

Back when I didn't need a hydrological lift bra they made great bras, ugly as....all get out...but were supportive. They practically started at the waist were cotton had wide straps...then TV came along and bras became pretty not practical. When I watch the old classics I can see them, the bras stopped at the waist and the girdles continued down from there. Ugly and uncomfortable but the held you up and gav back support. I wonder if Cuba would have any my size?

I agree, I think it is harder to find bras for the smaller busted these days. Even just 20 or 30 years ago there was a much larger selection of A cup and AA cup bras available.

I know every woman has their difficulties and the grass is always greener, but I have always been so envious of smaller breasted women. I think the freedom of movement, like being able to roll over in bed without getting a breast trapped under my side would be so wonderful.
Perhaps it is more difficult to find smaller bras due to the rising rates of obesity in our country? If there are more large women, they would of course need more large bras because those are what will sell.
All throughout my adolescence I was self-conscious over my breast-size. That tends to happen when people tease you constantly, I suppose. But, now that I'm older-not very much, but older-I have grown to appreciate the perks. Pun very much intended.
We've been conditioned to shamefully hide our bodies away and I can imagine that if certain bodies have more to hide, they may think their bust a nuisance.
By the by, what the devil is an AA cup? It sounds like some sort of sports competition held at Alcoholics Anonymous.

I think the long line bras (I think that's what they're called) are making a comeback. I'm not sure they come in larger sizes though...I'm going to have a look around the interwebs , just out of curiosity.

Here's one. A true classic style. My goodness, it's like a suit of armour. I can see how your clothes would hang nicely with this underneath, though. Still, up to a DDD, only. And I doubt it's cotton.

Midday, I think overall, the breasts of western women are larger, but not just because we're fatter.

It seems hormones in our diet and environment in addition to the birth control pill have all played a part. I wish I could remember where I read this. Just as a personal example, even as a slim woman my breasts were larger than the women in my family of the previous generations. In the early part of the previous century women, on average women started their first period at the age of 18, my generation it was 12 -14, these days, even younger. Earlier breast development, I think causes them to often grow larger. But don't quote me on any of this, because I'm too lazy right now to follow up on science articles behind it.

Our breasts do get larger as we age too - fun fact! Even though I once lost the weight, my breasts could not get back to the C cup of my youth. This time when I regained the weight , the rest of me is the same size, but my boobs are two sizes larger. It's all very bizarre. Maybe the psych meds have played a role in this too, who knows?

Sorry for the long winded ramble...

I can definitely see that.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that women develop at an earlier age due to the hormones present in milk and meat products. My guess is it's to do with a more frequent exposure to hormones, a higher-fat diet, and genetics.

I've read a couple places about the periods starting earlier. But I don't remember if I read about bigger breast..makes sense tho. I thought it was very ironic that periods were starting earlier but our attitudes about sex are getting more prudish.

I'm a 48DDD and the only bras I can wear are from Lane Bryant. They're expensive but they last a long time, too. I usually wear the full coverage cotton bra because its stretchy like a cotton shirt and contours to my shape, but lately it's been droopy more, so I got a cooling minimizer bra. I just got it in the mail today, and wore it to school. I gotta say, it feels so snug on me to the point of being uncomfortable almost, but damn my boobs are defying gravity in it! Maybe I just need a bigger size in this kind, or something. I've been seriously considering a boob job, like a reduction and lift, because my back can't hardly take it anymore. The bra straps literally dig deep into my shoulder tissue.

OOOOh, that sounds so painful, krisakira. Maybe you need a smaller band size, if the straps are having to do so much work. But I know a lot of us are wearing bras that don't fit well, simply because we can't afford bras that do. Crummy you have to be in pain.

I have a couple of friends that have had breast reduction surgery and they were very pleased with the results.

I literally cannot get a smaller band size because the 48 barely fits around me on the last hook setting. Anything lower I would not be able to hook.

I hate wired bras cancer causing things! They have left bruising under my boobs and I wear a genie bra which looks like a sports bra. I like the strapless bras don't own any.

Went to lane Bryant today. They had BOGO1/2 off. Tried on a bunch found one that fit and I like, got it in cream and one in black. Now I know what size I am and can use the on line feature. Went up a strap size and down a cup. Gravity defying, now I feel like I stick out like a masthead. guess for halloween I could go as a Valkyrie, just find me some blonde hair, leathers, a big sword....wings....starting to sound like a Victoria ads.

This thread just reminded me of something funny from university.

I was on the varsity fencing team, and had to wear breast protection. Getting poked by a sword in the boob is no fun.

They had 2 types. The first were these nice discrete little plastic disks, about the size and shape of tea cup saucers. But no these weren't big enough for me. Instead I got the metal ones that were shapped like and the approximate size of small dog food dish. Wearing those I definitely jutted out but was square in the front. And they were as uncomfortable as anything.

Have you tried silicone shoulder pad/Silicone Bra Strap Pad for sale - Price,China Manufacturer,Supplier 1294677 ? I saw them in the lingerie shop last week. (a different brand, and it was specifically advertised to stop discomfort)

I bought a thing last week that converts my regular bras in a bra with 'cross straps' (not sure what to call it). Basically that it's crossed on your back. It's amazing! My bras actually support me again.
Now that I'm actually being supported again, my bras are a little too small.. and that sucks because the bra shop said they don't have any wire bras in a bigger size. (I have 80F, or 36DDD in the US) Or I'd have to order through internet, but I really like having the shop lady help me see if the bras fit right.
Or I'd have to lose weight. I am losing weight - I think it's because I'm tapering off Zyprexa, as I'm not eating any different. So maybe I'll fit into my bra again.

One of my missions in life is to make every woman in the world go and get a bra-fitting.
Call and make an appointment. It will be a life-changer for your boobs and save you a lot of money, time and frustration.
P.S. must do a bit of advertising for Freya bras. My fav for my G/F-cups

I have a Freya bra for um, you know, sexy-times, and I agree, they're fantastic bras. I'd need to go down a couple of sizes for them to fit me for day wear though, but yeah, gorgeous bras. I do wear the Fantasie bras (which I think is a sister company to Freya..?) - the molded Rebecca, and it offers me good coverage and a nice shape - the support can wane as the day wears on though.

I'm seriously considering buying an old school soft cup bra. After years of underwires, I'm considering entering the torpedo tit world with a Triumph Doreen or a Goddess soft cup. They come in my size, and at this point, for day wear, I just want comfort and support.

If you can't get a proper fitting, the link to the reddit group....oh I think it was page or two back was extremely helpful for me.

I really need to get my eating under control - I dream of the day I can just buy a bra in a department store, once again. But for now, it is what it is.
Thanks for this!

Torpedo tit! LOL! Not quite ready for that look yet. But it sounds like an interesting project
Barenecessities.com have great tips on how to go about taking your own measurements. Also all sorts of other tips that has to do with the problems a woman has to go through to find a decent bra.
I hate shopping for bras in department-stores. I get anxious just thinking about it... (and when I say anxious I mean Anxious For Real! Triggering!). I have too many bad memories of sweating around looking for something that doesn't exist there. I mean, most department stores do not carry F/G-cups Unless they are really ugly and sad-looking.
I save up some cash and go to the most upscale place I can find. And when completely broke, I hunt for a nice Freya-bra on line.
After all, a womans underwear is the most important part of her wardrobe. Without the rigth underwear (support and push-up and all of that), my clothes are not going to live up to their full potential, are they now?

Because of this thread and the other one on bras I read the Wikipedia on bras. in 1945 house wives owned 0.8 bras and farmers owned 1.6 bras apiece! During the war....torpedo bras were the in thing.....can you say ugly? I guess ether bigger side gals didn't exist or they weren't buying cause B & C was what they made.

Really interesting article tho! Eye opener

Wait...what do you mean .....do you mean farmers' wives? I'm having a mental image of a man in 1945 plowing a field while wearing a bra

Reminds me of the time my husband & I visited a little farm town around here & we saw a very ample-sized bra, hooked around a telephone pole. The cups of the bra were stuffed with hay
