i started my period when i was 14, i am now 20. i used to be somewhat regular, but not this past year. i think this year i have had maybe 4 periods. and when i do have them they last about 3 days tops. my question, at my age is it still normal to have irregular cycles to the point of skipping 3 months and having such short periods? or, should i consult a doc?

I would definitely see a doc. Its normal for our cycles to get off but its always good to see a doc about big changes.

it could be stress or any number of things. I would see a dr since you are 20 though.

I use to experience amenorrhea in my teens thru
early 20's. During my mid to late 20's I had heavy menstrual cycles.I had to go in for regular exams and tests to monitor my hormones. In my case, I needed a hormone shot to regulate my flow and monthly cycle. I would contact your gynecologist or family doctor. Hello (((HALLIEBETH))). I agree with everyone else. There are a number of factors that could be off setting your periods. A physical may be in order. Birth control pills can help regulate your periods as well so at least you know when you will be having a period. Take care and good day. Soidhonia

i think the most common reason for not missing periods in your age group is being under weight or exercising too much - may or may not be relevant.
Apparently even being stressed can make them irregular - but good idea to get checked out as it can also be due to things like polycystic ovaries etc. I don't have many because I have a medical condition where I can't absorb food so I am very underweight - I think it's great!! i don't get cramps, or moody etc |
