Have you ever had time off for this?

I can manage the cramps with painkillers, but I struggle with emotional symptoms.

I never get too bad, but I feel jittery and have rushing negative thoughts. I feel like everything is awful. I sometime SH.I feel like there's a storm inside my head, but it doesn't show on my face. Feel like I'm being torn in two - I'm ok, but I'm not ok.

I can't help but wish I could take some time off, even just the morning off.

How about you?

In that area (and that area only) I am blessed: the only thing I notice from my period/cycle is the bleeding (duh) and that I need to pee more often during my period.

Can you schedule your work so that you can take the morning off? Maybe if you stay an hour longer 4 times a week, you can take the morning off on the 5th day? (Doesn't even have to be the same week if you prefer not to lengthen your days the other days of the week you're PMSing)
Thanks for this!

I think my dificulties rn are pms related its really hard for me to sit with myself and take care of myself when i feel like i dont deserve it (i gain weight before my period and it triggers my ed). Take good care of yourself, and maybe taking some time off could help?

Hi BBB2,

I have trouble with PMS symptoms at work, too. Like you, everything seems wrong and horrible - all my old issues come back up, I become so overwhelmed with my past and present problems/mistakes, become incredibly reactive and weepy, and all that on top of the physical pain. It's funny, every month I tell myself that next month I will remember that this is PMS and not let myself get sucked into it, and yet, every month I fall into my PMS trap all over again.

I work in Human Resources in an office that is 90% women, so PMS issues are a legitimate problem we've had to deal with around here. Especially since our cycles sync with the women around us, there's about a week of every month here where chaos busts loose and everyone is mean to each other. We've developed strategies to combat that such as scheduling important events/meetings during "happy" times of the month, etc. It's almost comical when you're planning these things, but during that time of the month, it's a legitimate problem. Try talking to your HR department about the problems you're having. Most of the time, if they're any good, they'd rather work with you than risk it developing into a problem. Depending on what you do for work, maybe they can work out some work from home activities you can do, or a rotating schedule to help you avoid the worst of it. You never know until you ask, and speaking from experience, most companies appreciate you taking initiative to work on preventing a potential problem. Good luck!
