I am 46 and not sure if I am starting to go through menopause, For about 10 months my periods are only lasting 3 days (they used to last 5-6 days) I am not having hot flushes though but I do seem moody before and when my period starts.

I am also 46 and I am having skipped periods and also short periods along with regular ones. So I think this i the start. I am guessing we probably have about 2 or 3 years more. I don't know that I have any more symptoms but I am having heart palpitations.

Peri-menopause, the changes your body is going through to get to menopause, can last up to 12-13 years. You can have all or none of the noticeable symptoms for a short time or a long time. Changes in your cycle is definitely an indication you are there, but it's anyone's guess how long or what will happen next. In your late 40s I would agree that you are going thru peri, but for how long...???

My mom stopped at 49 with no symptoms. I stopped at 54 after a few years of severe mood swings, hot flashes and a semi-regular cycle.

BTW, menopause can also affect you mentally, not necessarily MI, but memory and recall and other ways.

I am usually very regular so this is why I asked could it be menopause. I haven't had hot flushes as of yet so not sure if this could be the beginning of menopause. Do everyone get hot flushes?

I don't know about the hot flashes at first. I got them later. I would think at your age you'd likely be heading toward menopause.

My guess is that you're experiencing peri-menopause. Not every woman gets hot flashes, but I think most do.

I didn't have any till maybe 2-3 years before I stopped my cycle. Not everyone gets them.

I'm 48. I had my last period 5 years ago. I've never had a hot flash or night sweats. I do notice that I'm mentally a bit fuzzier and my memory isn't as good, but that could also be meds. I think my Dr. hates me for being totally asymptomatic of menopause as she doesn't know what to make of it.

So no, not everyone gets hot flashes (fingers crossed in case I jinx it).

Is this menopause?

Thanks. I spoke with my doctor today and she thinks I could be peri-menopause so she has sent me for a blood test so I just need to wait for the results.

I saw my ob/gyn today. I'm 45 and no period for at least a year. She said to keep my mirena iud in until I'm 50. Taking it out would make me want another one from the bleeding due to my Coumadin. So she said we should give it till I'm 50 and pull it and see.

Yep, I'm afraid so!!!! It doesn't get any better either. You may not get hot flushes if you are really lucky, but the mood swings will stay. The periods will be all over the place & might really tail off & then out of the blue, you can get the period from hell!!! I've done all the herbal remedies, but eventually gave in to HRT. I couldn't stand the hot flushes. My hot flushes didn't come initially & I was beginnng to think to myself.....this is well easy!!! Yeah right!!!! Good luck.

Re HRT:. I can't get that because I've had blood clots. This is gonna be fun.

I went to see my GP and my results are normal so she examined me and said everything seem's fine but she is sending me for an ultrasound and thinks that I could have fibroids.
