My right nipple hurts. A few times a day it becomes hard, as in really hard, currently for example it's so hard I can feel the shape (as a "bump") through my clothes and I'm wearing a bra, a tshirt, a sweater and a vest. It'll hurt really badly, then after a few minutes it'll go soft again and the pain will disappear for the most part. There's no discoloration and the nipple doesn't feel warm. I've never had this before. I'm not pregnant and about 30 years too young for menopause. Anyone an idea what this could be?

I think that if it's bothering you, you should have it checked out.

Thank you for your responses.
I will go to the doctor if it hurts continuously or if theres discoloration or something, but not with something as vague as this. |

The only problem I see with that is if it's something that can be treated now and be okay, why would you wait until it shows some later stages of something? There shouldn't be pain in the nipple. There's something going on there and it may be a quick fix at this point. Just saying it would be wise to have it checked out now. But the decision is certainly yours, take care of you.

A hurting nipple is not vague. I would not wait until it gets worse to go to the doctor.

Any breast pain could indicate something malignant. See your gynecologist.

My left nipple is now doing the same. Don't think it's something malignant, because that would be one hell of a coincidence.

No. Of course it isn't. I just meant to keep an eye out for other changes. Fluid, bumpy areola or other breast tissue.

I'll keep an eye on it, no worries.

Definitely agree with the suggestion to see your doctor.
In addition to that, may I ask how much caffeine you consume each day? If it's a lot, you may want to try cutting back as much as possible to see if that makes any difference. I used to have frequent breast pain and asked my GYN what might be causing it. She said the two main culprits are hormones and caffeine. I eliminated caffeine and now only get breast pain at certain times of the month (and even then it's much less severe). Mine was generalized breast pain, however. Nothing in the nipple area. Still might be worth considering in your case. |

My caffeine consumption limits itself to a couple of mugs of tea a week.. don't think that's the problem.
Currently having my period. Maybe the nipple stuff will go away after. |

My nipples get sensitive and hurt when it's nearly that time of month, I don't know if that's what happening.

It's been going on for about seven weeks, including two "times of the months" (counting the one starting today). But now that you mention it, my whole breasts are sore today, which is probably related. Thanks you.
