I've had the Mirena in for just over 2 years. My periods were getting lighter and lighter every month - like normal for the Mirena. Barely enough for a pantiliner, but still enough to know I wasn't pregnant.

Since about January, they've been kinda weird. I had a period around Christmas, then like only 18 days later I had another one - or maybe, maybe not, maybe just spotting. Then it was a while before I got another one, and I got all freaked out that I was pregnant, but no. It finally showed up.

But then...just this last week - I had a very heavy period. Like a regular flow from before I was ever on the Mirena.

I checked the strings and they're still there.

I had my annual gyno exam about 3 weeks ago. Everything was normal.

Why would it suddenly be heavier? Does it mean anything? Just a fluke? (let's just say it was a good thing I wore black pants one day....been so long since I needed that much protection...)

Just curious.

Strange. I've had the IUD, Mirena..for 3 years now and never experienced anything like that. Either I have a so called "period" or none at all. I've never had anything heavier then that. Have you asked the gyno? Maybe the gyno trip it's self did something.

heavier periods are a common side effect of the mirena iud. and its different for everyone. things like lack of sleep and extra stress can really do a number on your body's natural rhythm. and i know you have been under some extreme stress lately. i would probably attribute it to that. see how it lightens up after tax season is over haha

Yeah, it might be outside factors...

still, be sure to call gyno.

ive had mirena iud for 9 months now after baby was born & i like it a lot better than the copper t shape kind i had before. hopefully i will leave this one alone. the last one i had i was in a drunken manic state--i laid down in the bathroom floor & yanked it out. dont ask me what was going thru my head. was without birth control for a year & got pregnant. had my baby girl last october & mirena seems to agree with my body.
