You have my deepest sympathy. I went through that too -- for awhile there I had 2 periods a month! I'm coming up on 6 months without one, though. I hope it lasts! I'm perfectly ready to be done with the whole thing.

LOL - just makes me think of my poor mom who's 53 and still has her period. People are always shocked by that! She's not especially happy about it either!

Oh, poor lady!! Make sure you give your mom extra-big hugs -- nobody should be going through that still at that age! I feel bad for her!
My mom hit menopause at 48 (believe me, I've asked, LOL) and I am 42. I hate to wish my life away, but the day all this ends forever I am having the party of the century! ![]() |

My other sister is 53 and still going strong. I just turned 48 and my doctor told me if I wanted to have another child, everything looked good! ![]()

Sunrise, this is NOT encouraging.

I hope this isn't too disgusting -- warning for frank discussion of bodily functions!
I put a discreet little "X" on my calendar for start and stop days. I had a dr. tell me to start counting the first day you see any blood, even if it isn't full-blown flow yet. I count "stop" as the first day I can get by with just a panti-liner or something, or not need anything at all but maybe still have a little spotting. |

LOL, I'm sorry! I meant for the menopause; it's over after a year but whether you count at the beginning (first month you don't have period) or end (a year after when you know it's done) apparently makes a difference. I just remembered the last month I had a period and decided that was that but got lectured by a nurse once so got all confused and then I get confused over time whether I remember things right or make things up, etc. But I'm sticking to August 1999 and imagine it doesn't matter anymore? LOL

Its just weird because my family history shows most women go through menopause in their mid forties. I guess in a way it is good because I desprately want children some day, but I don't know when it'll happen (I've been very single since I was 19). I don't want to wait until I'm 50 for sure (I'd like to be alive to see my grandchildren!!!) but it is good to know people in their 40s can still have kids. I'm kinda hoping mid 30s for a child for myself personally

LOL that's interesting to know -- I didn't know they considered it "done" after a year! If you're 8 years down the road, though, I'd say you're probably done, yep!

I had a professor in grad school who was 65 when his 40-year-old wife had a baby.
Kid's 10 now and chances of the good prof being around to see him graduate from college are slim. Mid-30s is a pretty decent time -- most people are pretty well settled by then in finances and careers. I wasn't one of them, of course, LOL so don't go by me! ![]() ![]() |

Yes, it's the perimenopause that takes the 10 years, the actual menopause is when you don't have a period for a year straight, that's how you know you're through. But when they ask, sometimes they just ask when was your menopause and other times they ask when was your last period! But they do ask, in a sense, when were you done :-) so when you get done, think up a date to answer all questions because they keep asking even when you're 57+ I'm telling you :-) Why, I don't know. I still love when my appendix burst in 2003 when I was 52 and I had infection problems that related to my ovaries and the gyn (and other doctors) were talking about, yes, there's your little shriveled ovaries" and making me feel like I was 80 or something LOL.

LOL I refuse to see any but a female gyn. My very first time for a "girly exam", I did the walk-in clinic thing (was in college), and the guy (who was probably in his late 50s) cracked jokes the whole time!! I found it wildly inappropriate and uncomfortable. At least the women I've seen just say, "Yeah, I know it stinks, let's get it over with." :-)
I don't think I would have taken too well to hearing about my shriveled ovaries! ![]() |
