To blow off some steam due to a horrible week I've had in my apartment bldg. I decide to go to the grocery store for some apples, soda. When I go into the check out line there are those awful magazines well one stood out.
American women outlaws, I took offense to it. SO I turned the magazine over then wouldn't you know it, there was a painting maybe 16th century or so of a woman behind bars right on the back of the mag.
I simply took a Good Housekeeping magazine then covered it up.
Why vilify women like that?
What made me mad was that a few of those women never had a chance in life at all. Meaning their Mothers engaged in prostituition, drugs or they came from a family lifestyle of heavy drug use, or being beaten on a DAILY basis.
I can't begin to tell you what that does to your mind. I've read a couple of books about the women featured on the magazine cover I've done some research.
Of course the owners of the magazine in question is owned by rich elite men the 1%.
That's not to say all men are bad, but what I do know is that the upper echelon of the rich who are men have a very bad view of women.
I'll say it. Misogynists.
Hate for women across the board.
Seems like in society if women make a few mistakes oh lord we're horrible. Let men do that & it's more support & empathy.
As a female I've been subjected to some horrible things going back to when I was a child. I really didn't have anyone that cared about me as a human being.
I was always sexually objectified if you don't understand what that means I suggest you go to Google.
At 8 or 9 I was a scrawny little girl I was real pretty. An older mentally challenged teen wanted to have sex with me. I knew nothing about sex but I knew a little something of what this boy wanted.
Another thing that bothers me is parents, guardians whoever is responsible for the child don't do enough to talk to kids. Especially young girls!
Or was I surrounded by complete idiots? I mean as an adult you would have to know something about the kinds of people that could bring harm to a child, wouldn't you?
No one seems to care to protect young girls.
And young girls grow up to be big girls often with bigger problems because why? Not one adult bothers to pay attention to talk to girls about what might lie ahead & prepare them.
What the media does is lie. And what I saw in the few seconds it took me to see that cover was one big lie. Those women on the cover of the elite rich mans magazine were human beings.
Chewed up then spit out.

Because not just men, but women too have the capacity of raping, hitting, abusing, jacking up banks, committing murder, and hating, objectifying and belittling men?

I'd cover up the Good Housekeeping, my house will never look as fake and atrocious those "modern" houses.
Thanks for this!

Sounds like a rough week, indeed.

I had to dig a little to figure out the magazine. They're going through some momentous changes, yet again. Has an interesting history. I'd finger point more towards their marketing team or director where sales approach is concerned. There's only so many hours in a day when runninh a business...

It sounds you are more upset by the people who published the magazine than the actual content. I'd simply ignore it. If I'm on facebook and people post political garbage, I ignore it irregardless if it angers me. I'm not on facebook to argue with friends and family my political views.

So I’m still not sure I understand this post.
You’re offended by American women outlaws or 16th century Art or the ruling oligarchs?

You’re broad statement of “an adult you would have to know something about the kinds of people that could bring harm to a child” is downright harsh!
Why do you generalize this? What right do you have.

“Not ALL girls grow up to be big girls with bigger problems!”
Are you basing this on your own past experience? Because that’s TOTALLY unfair of you to say!

“Not ONE adult bothers to pay attention to talk to girls about what might be ahead”. Where are you getting this information except from your own experience & slathering it on the general society.

I’ve read you’ve had a crappy past. Well mine was no picnic, but I don’t appreciate your view bec I’m a part of that society you just brushed with a very broad stroke!

If you don’t like a magazine, don’t look at it!

I think that’s the whole point. I have no idea about this magazine, but it turned into a generalized rant

I’m sorry this magazine was so triggering for you. I get a little triggered from seeing all the headlines on the tabloid magazines at the grocery check out too.

Who is the buyer of this magazine, I wonder. Maybe they were glorifying “Women Outlaws”. Maybe this was produced due to the huge popularity of the ID Channel. Women are probably buying this mag, not men.

my first thought on this is that many places celebrate moments in history. ie american history month, ...well america is at a point where we are literally watching the history of Women change and this historic change came about thanks to one then two then more and more and more..... very strong women who said "me too". the result is people looking back on the history of women, where we are today and where this is going to go into the future. things are changing and right now in general people want to be informed not only about the good but also about the bad of this culture. Because this is history in the makings, magazines, news reports, tv shows you name it are documenting the past present and future in the history of women. they cant just pick out the "good" stories of clean cut women who do no wrong because thats not reality. the reality is that women just like men commit crimes and do end up in prison, and we do have some very notable historic women criminals.. ie bonnie from the duo bonnie and clyde, lizzie bordon,...

I have come to accept the fact that, in this historic change for women going on right now here in america, we are going to see many pictures, magazine articles and news reports that we may not like. I protect myself by making sure I am in a good place before I do things like turn on the news, go shopping, come on the internet. this way I dont get triggered by the negatives and can see them as "wow, we have come a long way"
Thanks for this!
