Today I went to my dr about my elevated testosterone levels and found out that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may be the cause of my irregular periods, severe cramps, and other problems I've been having. I have to schedule an ultrasound to know for sure, but I've done a little bit of research about PCOS and I fit into most of the signs and symptoms from it. Knowing that it can cause infertility/pregnacy problems and also possibly be a sign of cancer of the uterus makes me a bit scared and worried.
Anyone that has/dealt with PCOS, could you give me a bit of your experience with it?

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 (I am now 49), so I have dealt with it most of my life. It did cause fertility issues but I do have a son, so pregnancy can happen. Basically I have been on a high dosage birth control pill most of my life to control the hormones. I used waxing to get rid of the facial hair and after time I only have a small spot of facial hair left. It has caused me to be overweight, although I try to eat healthy.

If you have specific questions just ask.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to deal with it since the age of 16, but I'm also glad to hear that you were blessed with a son. I am already overweight for my 5'1" frame. For my height and age I should be around 110-120lbs. I'm currently at 160. I thankfully don't have any issues with excess facial hair, I only have a bit of "peach fuzz" (which is genetic in my family). But I do have body hair that is darker and thicker than it should be, especially on my back, belly, butt, and legs. One thing I do find funny is that the hair on my head is thin and falling out (it's always been thin, but only recently been falling out more than normal) but my mom's side of the family are full-blood Italian, who are known for thick hair.

I have an atypical case of PCOS. I've never had cysts but I'm still considered to have the disorder. For me PCOS also causes insulin resistance. A glucose tolerance test in addition to testorone levels being tested led to my diagnosis. I take Actos to help control my PCOS.

I have an ultrasound scheduled after next week. I couldn't get one scheduled any earlier. I really hate that I have to wait so long to find out if I do have it. Especially if they find any pre-cancerous cells, it's better to get it checked out as early as possible. Hopefully I don't have anything pre-cancerous.
How well has Actos worked for you? Was it your first prescription for it or did you have to try others to see what worked best for you?

The cysts aren't neccessarily cancerous. Actos was the third medication I tried, before I tried Metformin and Lo Loestrin Fe. With Actos I now 90% of the time get my period monthly and my testorone levels are much lower. Also, you may want to check out this PCOS forum:

UPDATE!!!!

I finally found out the results of my ultrasound...it's CLEAR!!! I don't have any cysts or abnormalities, but I still need to do some more testing to see what's the cause of all my problems. Hopefuly they do find something so that it can be treated.

Thank you everyone who have commented and given me advice! You all were very helpful and supportive!!
