Hi ladies. I have been charting my period for the past 5 months and surely around two weeks before I get my period, my anxiety sends me to a deep hole of anxiety/depression. Well the time is here I believe today....I have been feeling it perhaps a few days now, but the bomb hit me this afternoon....it's as if I went from feeling slightly anxious(which i a normal state for me) to full blown misery....I mean jittery, jumpy, on edge, irritable, crying, saddness, ....I mean bad ladies. I know it will pass, but I sit here in agony for today.

I too went thru this for many months (maybe even years) and then I finally talked to my GP about the event and how it was disrupting my quality of daily living during that one week out of every month and she placed me on Sarafem first and then Celexa for PMDD - for I had eventually became suicidal during my period along with all the other symptoms you mentioned.

Do you think it is time to talk to your own doctor about this?

BTW - a piece or two of DARK CHOCOLATE each day during your period will help with PMS - per my GP and Gyn/Ob.

I had to get on the pill to help with mine. I'm much less crazy now when I start pmsing. I also call a friend now when its starts to come on, and she calls me, and we walk each other through it.

AMEN!! - and isn't that the goal of every PMS Female - to be better (sane) during that one crazy week of every dreaded month?

I have posted this many times before and thought it was worth sharing again.......

Yes, PMS is real and over five million women are in the dark over the severe hormonal imbalance affecting them 10 days out of every month.
They too are frightened by the violent fluctuations in mood, depression, and weight gain – women do not always know what is causing this to happen to them.

* * * * * * *

I like the description I came across on PMS and the emotional phase a woman goes through using the seasons.

PHASE 1 – The Spring Phase:
The phase starts with the blood flow of the menstrual cycle and is dominated by estrogen. During this time a woman feels bright and fresh like spring. (This is after the cramps and aches associated with menstruation have stopped) New surges of life burst inside her. She is positive, assertive, outgoing, happy, energetic and well coordinated. Little threatens her, and she can accomplish almost any thing. Her relationship wither husband and kids are delightful and relaxed. The tension she felt prior to her period vanishes, and life is a whole new ball game.

PHASE 2 – The Summer Phase:
This a peaceful, happy, affirming, creative time of the month. A woman has the “warm fuzzies” for her family and friends and is generally pleased with life. She is a bit less assertive than in the spring phase but able to accomplish much. Her body is moving toward liberating an egg for fertilization. Estrogen continues to dominate.

PHASE 3 – The Midsummer Phase:
Midsummer is that time during which ovulation occurs. The egg leaves the ovary for possible fertilization. A woman usually feels euphoric, motherly, peaceful, sensual, and integrative. Everything in life seems absolutely wonderful. She loves her husband and kids, who can do no wrong. All of these feelings are influenced by progesterone.

PHASE 4 – The Fall Phase:
Immediately after ovulation a woman begins to slowly lose energy as she enters the fall phase. Slight depression or the doldrums set in and she isn’t as enthusiastic about life as she was a few days ago. Suddenly her husband and children don’t seem quite so lovable. Assertiveness is a thing of the past and her confidence is droopy. It is generally suspected that during the fall and winter phase, hormones fluctuations are responsible for a host of unpleasant symptoms.

PHASE 5 – The Winter Phase:
Winter sets in around the fourth week of the menstrual month, and many women become downright nasty. There are typical symptoms associated with this phase: sluggish, depressed, irritable, weepy, outburst of emotions, jumpiness, expressed resentment, expressed hostility, suspicious, frustration, sudden moods swings, irrational, supersensitive, abnormally hungry, crying over everything (the list goes on). Fortunately the menstrual flow is only a few days away and a woman will feel quite different once this begins.

My friend's therapist gave her an interesting outlook too. She said that when we release an egg, we start "nesting". Just like a pregnant woman does. Our bodies start getting ready in case that egg is fertilized. So we start worrying about everything. We snap at our loved ones, we get angry at significant others etc. All because our bodies are preparing us for conception.

When my friend told me this it made sooo much sense. My pms wasn't as bad back when I didn't want children, now that I do it makes so much sense! And my friend didn't have it as bad until she got with her bf, and same with me. It made me realize that since I'm with the person I want kids with, I'll go into "protection" mode even more.

This just helped me so much to realize that my body was throwing out all kinds of chemicals in preparation for possible fertilization and motherhood. So when we start feeling crazy we call each other and remind each other that we're nesting. Makes sense that I start feeling better once the bleeding actually starts.

I am so happy I don't go thru that! no periods now for 26 yrs! woo hoo.

my daughter however has it bad. can't hardly be around her when she is like that. I feel for each and everyone of you that go thru it. ((((hugs))))

thanks all for responding. I'm still going through it. Today I'm feeling very snappy and on edge. I'm trying to control myself by keeping busy. I have a four year old who is going through the "why" stage...everything is why this, and why that....WHY!? all day long. I'm trying to smile and answer all his "WHY's".....without going into "snap mode"...boy God sure likes to test us.
