I was just wondering. I do not know if hate is too strong a word. I mean it in the colloquial sense I guess. In fact for the most part I am satisfied and content being a woman until something harassing happens from a male. I had to stop going to a certain gas station because the guy would reach in my car and touch me or hold my hand a second too long when taking the money. Of course my husband asked me if I would report it (after I finally told him) and I told him that I didnt want to be disbelieved and talked about in my town by cops that are notoriously sexist. And I know its my word against this guys' and he didn't like grab my breast but he did touch me. Stuff like that is what I am talking about. Also things like periods, funny woman stuff etc.

The sexism and misogyny is what I absolutely loathe. Also, there are never enough positive female role models in real life and fiction. I don't like periods, risk of pregnancy and breast cancer but it isn't as bad as the social consequences of being a woman.


I hate that women's boundaries are seen as 'negotiable' or non-existent by men, that women aren't taken as seriously (both in politics and health), mail-order brides still exist, menstrual huts still exist, and that men still do not treat women as fellow humans. We are not sex toys, we are not domestic slaves, we are not incubators. I hate that women's spaces are often disrespected and colonized by men. I could easily write an essay on how many awful things are forced upon women.

Before I hit menopause, I loathed getting my period. Now that I'm post menopause, I hate the social pressure to keep my face hair free, as a result of menopause for me was a huge increase in jet black facial hair.

I love just about everything in my experience about being a woman. I’ve been blessed to be in a place in society where I’ve been able to feel safe enough and not mistreated. I’d probably love being a man just as much if I were born one.

The worst thing that comes to mind is that being a woman encouraged me to be dependent on a man rather than support myself and my family financially as I would have done if I were male. I know other women do not feel this way or do this. This is just my upbringing and situation. I could have chosen to have a career. No one would have stopped me. But I didn’t and didn’t really want to. And only being a woman gave me that option and I feel lazy I guess for taking advantage by resting on my laurels.

I loathe the sexism, the patriarchal ways that still dominate our society, the objectification of women and the entire pornography culture that degrades women, turning us purely into sex objects and which in turn, influences the male viewpoint and approach to women, and I loathe having to have a period every month.

So, yeah, there are some things that truly suck about being a woman. Some nice things too, but these are big issues, especially pornography.

Nothing really. I like being a woman.

Of course women are often treated unfairly but so are men when it comes to custody of kids, or expectations of them to provide and defend regardless of their ability to do so or situations with domestic abuse. Men are often victims but society is apprehensive of blaming a woman. Women often take advantage of men in our society. There is a lot of pressure on men

But I agree with Sara about harassment. I was assaulted or nearly assaulted several times in my life. I was lucky to manage every time. It wouldn’t happen if I wasn’t a woman. That part is sad. I am also small and not physically strong, that’s a disadvantage in a way.

I like everything about being a woman, but I cannot not think of those women in Africa and India who are mutilated, forcibly raped, or burned alive when their husbands die. So to make the question more specific - is there anything I loathe about being a woman in a first world country, no, there isn't anything, but I realize just how lucky I am.

The fact that once we hit 35, we are considered "old" or aging is considered unattractive.
With men, they can be old and still considered attractive.

I think being female is great, especially because their's so much to choose in the way of perfumes and body sprays (I love my scents)

sometimes it's annoying how people say women can't be footballers, women can't b wrestlers, blah blah blah blah, but sport is really helping with that now with all the women leagues and stuff.

There are progesterone-only (no estrogen) IUDs that do away with the periods or make them light and short. Something modern women can consider as an option.

Compared with average women, I do have light periods compared to the average woman. The bleeding is not the problem to much. It is just having to use pads during my period. It shifts, it moves, and over time it sticks.

I have had Mirenas since 2004. Changed every 5 years. On the current one, I do have a little bleeding, but the prior ones eliminated periods completely. I also think (but am not familiar with them) that there are now menstrual cups and other methods where it does not shift or move. But I do get that being period-free is liberating!

I really think there has been remarkable change in this. I’m 70, so Ive sen a big evolution. I was lucky to have a college education and worked hard for two more degrees beyond that, so I had a fighting chance, when with increasing life pressures the bipolar began limiting aspects of my life, The MeToo movement has really changed things, but we still have to look potential abusers straight in the eyes and say “No, you asshole, no way”. Never passed the Womens Rights Amendment, but women have every kind of job now, tho still underpaid and underrepresented as CEOs. I love not having my period, no worries about birth control, and no sexual dysfunction that men face with age. Men respond more to encouragement than the perfection of beauty and women have more options nowadays for staying young with exercise and good products. HEY LADIES, IT CAN BE PRETTY EXCITING OUT THERE TODAY!! Sarah, you are raising a family and run support groups that are so vital to peoples well being. I am my ex’smedical advocate, made sure that we and my son collaborated to buy modest homes, and am taking classses as a psych tech so I can volunteer or work for a
psych practice that integrates many wellness techniques so lacking now. It’s so hard sometimes, but hugs, everyone, it’s getting better! Many women are getting elected, esp here in Arizona. VOTE EVERYONE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!!
