Breast lumps

I have another tumor growing - again.
I have a family history of benign breast tumors. I've already had two removed more than ten years ago. They aren't dangerous. They just grow. I thought I was done with them since they didn't come back after last time. I don't want to have any more surgeries if I don't have to.

Has anyone here had a...prophylactic/preventative mastectomy?
It had come up last time these things came up. Since I have the recurring kind, I could go through a lot of these removal surgeries. I could also miss some real cancer if it developed. I mean, I get everything checked out, but we could still make mistakes.

I've looked it up, and it sounds pretty rough. BUT it would get rid of the rest of these darn lumps and it would minimize the risk of breast cancer (still possible but less likely). And I could get nice boobs for the reconstruction!

I don't know. I'm not nervous. Just fussy. PITA. My BF's nervous. I think he's going to worry no matter what. I know what's going on and it's no big deal, but he's kinda scared.

my best friend is having this done. she is having a skin saving double mastectomy. she does have one spot of cancer but they are doing the rest as preventive. with the skin saving they will put in implants at the time of surgery. nipples will be tattooed on at a later date.

Is there any way they can leave the nipples? I mean, I don't need the internal workings, but what about the rest? why do they have to take that off?

I think because they are attached inside. actually if you research it you can see some before and after shots and they look pretty good. I think they even do something to make it look like a real nipple. not just the areola
