I was dx'd diabetic in mid-April (the day after my bday -- nice present, huh? ) and put on Glucophage (metformin).
Up to that point, after literally YEARS of wacky periods -- for several months about 3 years ago I was having 2 a month, etc -- I finally seemed to be getting into official perimenopause (I'm 43). I could go several months without periods, and I can't say I missed them! However. Since I've been on the Glucophage, I have been regular as freakin clockwork. The ONLY time in my whole life I have ever been regular was when I was on the pill, and that hasn't been the case since I ended up with a blood clot in my lung when I was 27 (considered a bit young for that sort of thing....). It turns out that Glucophage can "reestablish ovulation in perimenopausal women." Nice of the docs to mention that, hey? I had to find it out myself. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anybody else has experience with this, and maybe some words of encouragement. I'm in my monthly crappy mood right now because my clotting disorder prevents me from taking anything stronger than Tylenol, and my whole freakin body hurts! GROWL. |
