I was planning on taking this weekend to just relax and chill out before being discharged from the hospital and starting to think about job hunting next week. Nope Type A personality me started obsessing and checked out one recruiter website. I saw a job that looked interesting so I spent the better part of this afternoon and evening updating my resume, and sent it off to the recruiter. That led me to updating my linkedin profile, and ordering my business cards. Now all I have to do is buy interview suits, and update and post my Happen profile, and get my life organized next week so I can seriously start contacting recruiters / applying for jobs the week of Sept. 13. This is so not fun. I get so stressed out job hunting, it's not even funny. Prepare for a lot of whining from me until I find something.

Oh and I need to buy a car next week too, so that I can get to interviews.

Thanks for asking Notz - i've slowed down since my initial rush. Now I'm trying to be systematic. I've updated my Linkedin profile and have gotten a bunch of recommendations from people for it, with a few more outstanding still. I have ordered my business cards - they'll be ready next week. I have an appointment with a career counsellor with my accounting society this Thurs. I'm really looking forward to that as I think it will help me focus in on the types of jobs I should be applying for. I've also started the process for taking advantage of the outplacement services that my company is paying for which will help with resume prep and interview skills, not to mention coming up with a coherent narrative for my crazy career. My goal for this week is to update my Happen profile and get it posted on-line, and to buy interview suits. If I get those things accomplished I'll feel happy and on track. I'm kind of focussing on organizing stuff in personal life too right now. So hopefully I'll be in a position to start contacting recruiters next week or the week after.

Will definitely remember HALT. Funny we were talking about it in my treatment group today.

Now for the wild part, I may have a job interview next week for a controller job in a small - mid size sales and distribution company.

After dealing with Linkedin, I was working on reconnecting with Happen (networking group) so I sent a brief paragraph intro out to the group e-mail list, outlining my background and saying what I was looking for. Got an e-mail today about a controller's job that is only 15 min. away from my house. Had a phone interview with the incumbent today - they're trying to hire strictly through networking so that they don't have to use recruiters. I've sent in my resume, and unless they hate it, which is a possibility, I'll have an interview next week. I'm trying to not get too excited about it, because really it would be too good to be true, but at least I know I can write a good paragraph selling myself.

Fingers crossed.

I called the company about the controller's job today, and was told they'd be deciding Mon. or Tues. who they wanted to bring in for in-person interviews, so hopefully I'll get good news & an interview early next week.

Had a recruiter e-mail me about a job that would be great today, so I sent him my resume, late this afternoon. Will hopefully hear back from him next week.

Had a great session with a career counsellor through my accounting society. She gave me a lot of great suggestions for revamping my resume. So I'm going to be working on my resume next.

Got approved to join the Toronto Finance Network and they have their next meeting on the last Wed. of the month. That should be good even though I hate networking.

Still have to get my Happen profile update and posted.

And I have about 6 jobs that I've seen posted on various boards that I want to apply to, so early next week is going to be really busy.
