I'm so pissed that jobs advertise themselves as part time (most recently for 10 hours a week) and then when you interview they say that they want you available for a full time schedule (ie rotating shifts, or just be available to work whenever). There is a reason I am looking for part time work (I'm in school.) If you want someone available all the time, they should say so when advertising for part time jobs. That will save you and me both time and energy.

And why the hell wont my dad leave me alone about work. I'm working part time and going to school. I'm not using any of his money to support myself. Why the hell can't he just leave me alone. It's not like I'm not trying to find another job. It is just hard to find one to fit around school and my other job. It isn't your life, leave me alone.

Sorry Googley...it does suck! Hope you have better luck down the road and I hope you dad gets off your back - that must just add to the frustration!

Not sure where you are but in MI it's like that too. I'm finding that employers expect A LOT and give back very, very little. I can't count the ads that ask for just what you describe--round the clock availability and almost no hours, plus low pay. It's like they want you to put your life entirely on hold but give you nothing for it, and they can ask for that because for every opening, no matter how awful, there are hundreds of applicants.

As to your dad, I don't think older people who are still working or retired really understand how bad it is out there. Many of them don't realize how drastically the world has changed.

I'm really sick of being judged by how employed I am. I'm down to four hours per week at my retail job with pretty much no hope of a raise, ever, and I try to keep a good attitude but if I think about it at all it's totally demoralizing.

Hang in there. It isn't you. It's the times.

That is so true.
The man of an older couple in my neighborhood keeps telling me that he was never ever laid off in his whole life. Okay...he is in his 90s now, and times were different back then.
