My boss told me today when I told him that I have a pdoc appointment tomorrow that I have to go to that I can't go because the assistant managers day off is tomorrow. I don't think this is legal to tell me I can't go. But I'm afraid he's going to fire me for going regardless of him saying that I can't.
I'm now completely anxiety ridden and have no crisis med to take to calm down and I have to spend another few hours with him today. Any suggestions on what to do or say to him would be of great help. Thanks Kelly |

Can you offer to work late or work through lunch to make up the time? I don't know what the law is on that...I don't think he can tell you you can't go, but I think he CAN ask for more notice. Not sure....good luck in working it out.

I'll work through lunch for sure, but there isn't any extra hours in the evening or mornings that I could do to make up for it. I think I'm going to google the laws. He's known for two weeks but forgot. Because I told him the same day I made he appointment that I'd need off for about an hour and a half.

I dunno if you guys have vacation forms but next time i would fill out a request off form and get it approved and signed. If you have something like that on paper with approval he cant touch you.
If you dont have something like that at your company i would suggest it. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

I wish we did, but it's a small mom and pop business so there's nothing like that and the only person besides the owner who gets vacation time is the assistant manager who's been here 33 years.
I'm not even eligible for the FMLA apparently because we don't employee fifty or more people. So... *sigh* |

In business, business needs do come first.
I ask for as much advance notice about schedule changes as possible for scheduling conflicts, because I have to meet the business needs first. One day's notice of needing time off would not be considered advance notice. Bosses take care of business needs so the business thrives and our jobs survive ![]() See if you can see your pdoc at another time, explaining that you aren't able to get the time away from work. Talk to your boss about how to handle appointments like this in the future. How much notice does your boss require?, would a particular day of the week be best for scheduling medical appointments?, a particular time of day?, what if you have a need for medical urgent care?, etc. In a small business, rules are not always written down, so I would suggest that you make a list of questions to take with you when you talk to your boss, and write the answers you're given so that you have your own company procedure for medical appointments and it will feel much more comfortable going forward. ![]() . |
