doesn't look like it is really 7.8% unemployment not when it is still hard to get a job anywhere. http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterfer...ns-on-the-way/
of course, the 7.8% is manipulated how did it "magically" appear to be 7.8%? near elections and once that is over, it will go back up. too many lies out there about what is really going on |

its a bit of complex issue, and depends on who you factor into the sample. U3 is the official rate, but U6 takes into account people who have quit looking, left the work force (permanant disabilty) those who have had to go part time. It is the more accurate rate, but it does make things sound really bad so the pols always use U3.

Like Timgt5 says, a lot of numbers are thrown out of the equation so if you're unemployment benefits run out, you don't count, etc., etc. If unemployment was calculated the way it was back in the '80s under President Reagan, the number would be 22% or higher--around 30% in California. This is according to economists who worked in the Reagan administration.

Don't forget people who work under the table they aren't factored into the employed.....neither are prostitutes and drug dealers
![]() Ive actually noticed a trend in my area though.....a lot of the employers are using temp agencies and i dunno if they were influenced to do this but it seems like they hire a boat load of them with no guaranteed hours...you end up getting out early all the time etc....and a lot of companies like procter and gamble hire for four hour increments maybe 20 hours a week....or part time...my mom who works at saks gets LOAs for a week here and there and collects unemployment the following week until she returns to work. So there are jobs but they are what I call unstable limbo type jobs, where you cant really track your income worth a crap. And its near the holidays and none of the warehouses around here seem busy. So many underemployed too. Many companies are also cutting hours to part time so they can acclimate for the upcoming burdens of the healthcare reform act. They also dump more tasks, including managerial duties, into positions that don't hold the title of "manager". I guess it's good for experience but the toll of stress and long hours for no more pay may not be worth it in the long run. Employee wellness has taken a back seat to profitability now more than ever. You have a choice... shut up and put up or hit the road. I really don't want anything to do with that environment. Lord help me find a way.

i agree about employers using temp agencies. we were told in workshops they want to see how you do and you get to see how they are as an employer. i cant even get a job in temp work they told me they have nothing for entry level college graduates and hope i find what i am looking for...really?!?!
none of the temp jobs i have seen actually have zero experience. so i dont know here in AZ, these employers rather would pay you dirt cheap even in a good economy. jobs pay good here if your a college grad but then again those "good jobs" wont hire you because you have degrees or whatever the idiotic reason is or shipped overseas. i dont know if there are any jobs still hiring for the holidays? i keep applying to the same companies every year with one interview or zero interviews and still nothing. |
