I have three weeks off under the recommendation of my psychiatrist. I don't feel I can go back and face my coworkers. It was a miserable job anyway. I still feel ashamed, though. I think they put out an all-staff email about me being ill (without specifics).

Hi. I hope you feel better soon. You don't owe your coworkers any explanations, and any decent person will treat you with courtesy and respect.

You have nothing to be ashamed of. I am on leave for treatment of bipolar disorder. People can't see what is going on in your brain, but if it's broken, you need the time to fix it and heal. I have been out for a while, and felt the same way early on. After having some time to work through many medication changes and getting counseling, I feel like I am a lot stronger mentally. You have nothing to worry about except working on yourself.

You have nothing to be ashamed of. Remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. You need to take care of you.
