Because of my depression and anxiety, I'm only able to work part time from home. I'm lucky enough to have a husband with a steady job. Sometimes I feel so worthless because I feel like I'm not really contributing to the family finances. But other times I feel like I should just consider myself lucky that I'm even able to work part time. It also bugs me though that employers have to (mostly) accommodate those with physical disabilities but not those with mental ones. I hate the stigma. Anybody feel the same way/have similar problems?

I definitely understand how you feel. I am currently working full-time but am looking at cutting back as soon as I can - for me it isn't worth the stress and emotional strain.

But you are definitely right that employers don't accomodate as much. I don't really have a solution but wanted to say you are definitely not alone.

Employers get paid extra (tax breaks, etc.) to hire those with disabilities, does not have to be physical, lots of people with mental disabilities get hired too that way, through government agencies, but the work someone can do with a mental disability often isn't the sort of work needed. If someone cannot show up, cannot "do" anything needing doing because of their disability, they cannot work, generally are too disabled and apply for disability, etc. Employers are not bad guys, a business has to make money or it goes out of business, cannot hire/pay anyone.

I know what you mean about the stigma because I' disabled too and can't work because of head injuries, depression and alot of other stuff. I'm on many many meds. I would love a part time job, I have worked several years ago while in college, and I loved to work as i love being near people too. I haven't tried to gt a new job since i'm on disability, and would lose it if i got a substantial paying job. I've been volunteering at the elderly care unit at the closest hospital, and I did some volunteer work at the cancer hospital years ago. I sold Avon and May Kay too. If anything now, i would have to do a home business as I get seizures too and am afraid to go out as I fear I'll have a seizure. I can understand the employers point of view in my case as no one else would like to see seizure either.Well I hope this helps and I hope you can find part time job. Good Luck!!!
