After a year and a half of sending out resumes and being told I was overqualified for the positions I was applying to, I finally got a job offer at a great place doing something I love. But now I'm freaking out. All these thoughts running through my head about the salary negotiation and they haven't gotten back to me and I've convinced myself they've offered it to someone else. But then I think ,no, I should stick to my salary guns. But then I REALLY want this job...AUGH! I'm driving myself nuts! And no one is calling me back, wtf? They were so responsive prior to me making my salary request. I guess I just wanted to vent, thanks.

If they think your demand is too high they could make a counter offer. When did you submit the desired salary?

It's a non profit and It hink they are not budging because of internal politics having to do with salaries (i.e. if they give me my salary ask, then I might actually be making MORE than my supervisor or others who have been there longer than me).

I just took it. I don't feel good about it but I need to start working. Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

Well, maybe angustios you could write them again & tell them that your salary offer is negotiable

It's really amazing when you find a job that just suits your qualifications & that you'd love so much; it's not important that you get a high salary in the beginning. With time in your new job, you could try to raise your salary

I pray for you that you get the job :*)

I would just think they want you but maybe, as they're called, want to "negotiate" the price but have to talk it over with several people to see what to counter offer, etc. Did you give them a good range?

I remember when I started in the job market again I just upped my previous salary a couple thousand and called it a day. It turned out I undershot, was a good deal but it was fine with me because it was more than I had made ever before.

Since this is a good job you want......I think you should do a follow up call. At that point you'll be able to tell if you should lower what you asked for. It might be worth to go down a little because, I doubt they'll pay you more than the actual supervisor. It could be possible they changed their minds because you asked for too much. Calling them will show you're still interested and best of luck.

I ended up calling them and was all set to talk to the person who makes money decisions (who had already decided no to my salary range) and I just decided to take what they offered me since it was nonnegotiable. Even though I didn't get what I wanted, I'm excited to start working again, or at leas I think I am. Talk to me next week on Friday though and I might be eating my words..

If it's non-profit I assume it's something beneficial to the less fortunate and since you think it's a great place to work and you'd love the work... all of that might offset the lower pay?

Lets hope you end up loving this job angustios. Often with non-profit workplaces, they have a strict budget to follow and less freedom to make wage decisions. Usually decisions like that come from higher up places. Jobs are hard to find with this shaky economy and at least its not something you hate. Many people are stuck taking lower pay jobs and not great places to work. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

The best perk about this job is that if I get stressed out I can take a break and go play with the kitties in the cattery! Or walk a dog outside! I cannot think of a better place to work it's like heaven be around animals all day.
