I posted my situation in a previous thread "between a rock and a very hard place" but I will restate it to help you to understand, and hopefully give any good suggestions. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I have degenerated discs & a bad pinched nerve that effects my typing/mousing hand, an accepted WC claim. Have returned to work for the 4th time and still going badly, may have to eventually seek partial disability, don't want to go under the knife just to be able to type on a computer. Disability will not cover my expenses & responsibilities so even if I go that way, I'll have to do something. Have been working at a desk/computer for decades, middle aged, not much in transferrable/marketable skills, it's been a tough go of it. (My hand is numb just from typing this post.)

In todays day & age it's hard to find ANY job that doesn't require using a mouse and when I googled "jobs that don't require a computer" the list was interesting to say the least and the 1st on the list was musician. So, I'm going to write out here my skills & other interests and maybe someone out there has an idea that might click for me.

My main skill is wholesale building products, buying & selling via the phone & computer. I have extensive knowledge of lighting, door lock hardware, kitchen & bath items. Inside sales & purchasing but not much outside sales rep experience.

Outside of that my two passions are music and fish. I write songs, mentor a couple of young local singers, and produce recordings. It's always been my hobby that at times has paid for itself when I was able to do studio work as a guitarist. Any pay I got went into my modest home studio. Must admit I haven't sold any hit songs, only a couple of commercials a good while back.

As for fish, I'm an avid angler, know seafood well, with decades of knowledge about the coastal fish & environment.

I also have culinary skills and used to do catering but in my condition, hanging over a stove and lifting pots & pans over it might not be an option.

Don't know if any of that can serve me in trying to change careers at 53 but with my physical situation and the fact I don't want to go through neurosurgery to be able to do sales data entry 8 hours a day, I will look at all the suggestions closely. I've tried seeking free or low cost career counseling and have come up with very little, so I figured this. Thanks for your reply.

Home Depot/Lowes manager (my stepson was this), radio station work/commercials, teach fish cooking/cleaning (I want that badly for private instruction, the cleaning part, but there's no such thing :-) continuing ed classes at a local community college a couple nights a week, teach guitar (same continuing ed classes).

Noncredit Instructors

Many community colleges, their continuing ed classes they let you offer a proposal for what to teach, etc.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
