So I might be getting a second job. I'll know either Monday or Wednesday of next week. I'm hoping Monday. I know one of the managers from church and he got me into the interview today. I think he'll probably put in a good word, and I think the interview went over splendidly, so I am not worried that I won't get it. If not, then I'll just try somewhere else. But if I do get this second job, it's going to be a hassle trying to explain it to my current manager and trying to get him to understand that I'll still be available for the holidays. I'll be working at both stores.

My husband is not too happy about it, it seems, because he thinks I'll be gone more often and he won't get to see me much. This is a possibility, of course, but for right now it isn't definite.

I am starting to stress out about it, though. I'm worried because the second job is on commission and I don't know how well I'll do selling things to people. At my current job, I just help people find shoes. I don't get tips, I don't get praised. I'm quiet. I do what needs to be done. At this new place, I'll need to really step it up and the face that I put on at my first job is going to have to become more fortified.

It's scary. I don't know if I can do it without lashing out at home.

Any tips or advice? Anyone else with two jobs?

I had two jobs for a little while, one was temporary. Just make sure you don't overdo it, if you get the job. I have worked commission before and I was horrible at it. I don't like trying to guilt people into buying stuff. But that doesn't mean your job and experience will be like that. Good luck!

I've worked 2 jobs a couple times, but never commission, so I can't comment on that. Just be careful you don't burn yourself out. And you probably are looking at sacrificing family time. Make sure its worth it. I worked two full time jobs and it really did put a strain on my marriage. Its not just time with family you have to balance out - you need time for yourself and sleep too. All those balls in the air become very tricky to juggle if you aren't careful balancing both jobs.

They said that if they hire people the newbies will only be working about two days a week until December, when they'll start working three and four days. Then, after holidays, they'll hire people for full-time (hopefully me) and they'll get more days and more hours. When that happens, depending on the pay and the hours, I'll decide which place to stay and I'll quit one of the jobs.

I'm mostly stressing about how to talk to my current manager about the second job situation. I'm hoping that I can work certain days at one place and certain days at the other but I don't know how that's going to work out. The second place seems pretty flexible with hours, though.

Don't say anything until you know for sure you've got the other job, but your best to be up front and honest about your second job asap with your current manager. Stress that you consider it a secondary job and that your current job remains your priority (at least at the moment - you don't need to clarify anything more than that until the other job becomes a possibility for permanency). As long as you don;t start to slack at your current job and can maintain a balance with both jobs and your personal life, I find that most managers can appreciate that they have someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to get by and work their *** off.

Now I have the opportunity to move up in my current job. It depends on what my wages will be. Am currently a department lead and looking into becoming a floor supervisor. So that's fun...I'll have to average at least 35 hours a week, which is good. But I don't know how that will work out. I have to officially say I'm interested, haha. I'd be the only one who is.

I havead full time and a part time. My advice is, make sure that whenever possible, you make some time for yourself-- you have GOT to have down time. Even if its just a 30 minute nap or going some place you enjoy on a saturday afternoon, schedule yourself some down time.
