I posted this earlier:
"I recently took an EMT course and I have one test left till I'm a certified EMT. I am very excited about it, but I can't get a job. I had an interview with a local hospital's ER for emergency department tech about two weeks ago. I had applied to all the openings in that position they had. It took them a while to even call me for the interview and now it's been two weeks since I had it. The lady that interviewed me said call back in a few days and talk to the nurse recruiter if I don't hear back from them. I have called and called, went up to the stinking human resources department because they wouldn't answer their phone. I talked to the nurse recruiter and she didn't recognize my name, which was weird. She texted my interviewer, she didn't respond, so the lady gave me her cellphone number. I have been calling her cellphone for days now and her voice mail is full so I can't leave a message. I'm going to go back up to the HR dept tomorrow since I can't get a hold of them, but I'm very discouraged. I'm afraid they're ignoring me on purpose. I really need this job, I'm struggling to just pay my bills right now. I don't know what to do. ![]() I didn't get the job. She wanted people that have already done that type of work. Why the **** did I get an EMT certification if I can't get a job? I've already applied to like three or four different hospitals. She did say she would forward my resume to whoever she said it was, and asked if I was interested in any more positions. She said telemetry tech and unit secretary might come open soon. Those have nothing to do with EMT though. I'm so conflicted right now. UGH...... ![]() Last edited by kittyfaye; Feb 07, 2014 at 09:25 PM. Reason: Spelling error |

Don't give up. It takes time. I have been on about a hundred or more interviews...online...phone...assessments..in person...and have applied at hundreds of more places. It can be crap shoot depending on who is reviewing the app/resume. Don't take it super personally. There are so many people for so few openings. I have been turned down so many times and have cried and felt so hopeless. You are not alone. You will find something.
Keep trying. How big is the city you live in? I had a friend that went through the emt training and volunteered with a firehouse until she got a job with a hospital. She worked a receptionist job at the same time to make ends meet. Another worked for the township he lived in to get his name out there and plowed snow until he found an emt position. You will get there. Another piece of advice be assertive not aggressive. Show your interest not your desperation. I learned that the hard way. |

Volunteer until you get a job? And relax, have patience, I mean you just barely took your final exam.
