I recently took an EMT course and I have one test left till I'm a certified EMT. I am very excited about it, but I can't get a job. I had an interview with a local hospital's ER for emergency department tech about two weeks ago. I had applied to all the openings in that position they had. It took them a while to even call me for the interview and now it's been two weeks since I had it. The lady that interviewed me said call back in a few days and talk to the nurse recruiter if I don't hear back from them. I have called and called, went up to the stinking human resources department because they wouldn't answer their phone. I talked to the nurse recruiter and she didn't recognize my name, which was weird. She texted my interviewer, she didn't respond, so the lady gave me her cellphone number. I have been calling her cellphone for days now and her voice mail is full so I can't leave a message. I'm going to go back up to the HR dept tomorrow since I can't get a hold of them, but I'm very discouraged. I'm afraid they're ignoring me on purpose. I really need this job, I'm struggling to just pay my bills right now. I don't know what to do.

Is that the only place you can get a job? What about private ambulance services?

Are you on linked in? You can join industry and local groups where people talk about stuff related and jobs are posted. I think there is a blue collar version of LinkedIn too. Probably not too many people on that yet.

Have you checked all the places jobs are posted including Craig's list and the workforce office. Workforce may have more entry level positions.

This is a weird one.... Kind of cutting edge. Ask something like "what is the best way to get an emt position after certified?" On quora. It's like yahoo answers but much more useful. I have seen people ask questions like that for other industries. And there are a lot of experts.

Sounds like you have done all you can to get a job at that place. I agree that it's time to see what else is available. Please don't get discouraged that your first interview didn't work out.

Keep trying for sure. I have applied at hundreds of places to get one or two call backs. How does your resume look? Selling yourself on paper is big. My boyfriend's brother is an Emt and he works for two different private ambulance companies. I know he struggled right out of the gate. Finding a good job takes so much work. It's competitive out there. You'll get there!
