How soon is too soon to quit a new job. I miss my old job. Not the work but the company, culture, people, benefits etc. I thought this professional job with the right money was a good idea and it fit more into what I went to school for and I am so unhappy. Anxiety is out of control. Can't stop crying. I have quit one other time right away and got so much crap from my family, friends and boyfriend for not being responsible. What am I to do when I have constant anxiety and feel so unhappy?

Financially I can't afford to just quit like I did last time...bills...rent...student loans... In between these two job I had a job I wasn't satisfied with professionally but I liked being there. I'm so tired of the anxiety and being afraid all the time.

If it has only been a month or maybe two you can quit and never include it on your resume. You have to include it on an application but your resume is a marketing tool. Sounds like you are young. Typical time at a job is 3 years. Hardly anybody cares if you leave after one as long as you demonstrate career growth and not just hopping. Of course your career field may be different. Everyone in my family stays at their job a min of 15 years. I do contract work and change jobs no more than 2 years. I just ignore them. They don't bother me anymore because I make more and control my time off

Thank you for your reply...I'm not too young 32...I graduated college at 29...since then it has been hard to keep a job. I held one job for 6 years and loved it but, was pressured to leave because I finished college and 1) needed to make more 2) everyone in my life told me I had to pursue something "better"........ 3 jobs later and I am so lost. Since graduating I feel like I can't meet expectations. The stress is destroying my life.

Well finding your way after college is expected too. I like contract work because I am "testing" the company with no strings attached. You also can avoid politics. You could try temp work in the industry you want to be in. Do anything. Receptionists get to know everybody so don't knock that. It's probably a cut in pay but it will probably take some of the stress off and you can start to figure out what kind of company you want to work for. And don't let your family get to you... They are back in the last century

The advice I had was that the first day I dreaded going to work I should be actively looking for another job. I tend to stay too long and leave badly. Is there a road back to the job you were happier with?

Ooo...A sticky situation, you need the money but you hate your job. I have a friend that hates her job, it's up in the mountains seven days a week and she's isolated from her friends. She needs the money though so she stays with it. Give it just a little more time. But if you still hate it then, find some other way to pay your bills. Ask if on the job accommodations can be made, like perhaps changing the hours you work.

Can you go back to your former company? I did that once (left a job I liked for one that looked better on paper but which made me miserable).

I would start aggressively looking for a new job now. Make a list of specific things you miss and don't miss about your old company and the same kind of list for your current job. What was it about the old company culture that you liked so much?

Being trapped in a job that isn't what you thought it would be really does suck. I hope you find something else soon!
