When I was going through a terrible time about 7 yrs ago I was without a job and very very little support financially or otherwise. A friend referred my to a small company that need admin help. I'm typically pretty outgoing and do not like to do strickly admin work. But was in deep depression - I did not feel good about myself or the interview..not sure how I even got through it. I got the job. The best part ... as I started to get well and my personallity started coming back - my boss hated me..and fired me. I guess he liked me better when I was depressed and quiet (I was able to collect unemployment) and it changed my journey - I'm still struggling financially but had so many great experiences after that boss let me go.

It sounds like things took a turn for the better, but, yeah, that's funny A friend of mine had something similar happen with her marriage. It was almost like her husband liked her better when she was miserable and unhealthy. Who can figure people out?

Most bosses suck. My experience was the opposite - I was so happy to have been hired after looking for a job for almost two years (admin), but the boss bullied me to the point I became depressed and suicidal and wound up taking a leave of absence, finally getting "laid off." He'd told me that I'd "changed" - um, yea, you treated me like crap day in and day out and it triggered my becoming severely depressed!

I think something to remember is, that someone in a position of "authority" is not alway mentally well...but we learned to respect authority. What I learned over time is I will be professional to a person that has authority...but I can not respect authority unless they earned it...and that goes both ways..they need to respect you as well!
When you apply for jobs...it's not just about them interviewing you...interview the employer. That job I took was only to get some relief. I did learn a lot and had a wonderful co-worker who knew I was not feeling well but treating me great and I gained additional skills because of her kindness. You can only change yourself or fire your boss.
