My questions are: how many references are good? how old is too old?
I always understood 3 references were good to have; is this still the case? Would 2 be ok? I did my clinical rotation last spring (2013) and during that time 2 direct supervisors offered to be references for me. I have since been going to school after completing my Associates to finish my Bachelor's, and just graduated. Should I contact them to update them on what I am doing and to verify if I can still use them as a reference? So for the 3rd reference, hoping the other 2 work out if it is still 3. I have not worked in over 13 years. I once had good references at that time but have not been in contact those references in all that time and they are in a completely unrelated field. Should I try contacting them or are they outdated/unrelated to use OR since then my clinical advisor said I could use her as a reference; would you do this instead? I am so nervous about even applying; I wanted to make sure my ducks were in a row before doing so. A job has posted that might be just right. It would be too much to ask for it is might work out and know references can make the difference at times. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The 2 supervisor refs at the same company is very strong. You could ask one or two coworker or teacher for a character ref. They usually ask for a specific number but if your two are strong i think that will be fine. I'm assuming the 14 year gap has to be addressed anyway so I don't think people expect a whole fan club
![]() I don't what kind of job this is but if you are perusing a career (more than a job) be forward thinking. Open a linkedin account and ask those supervisors to write up a recommendation. With any luck they already have accounts. LinkedIn has a canned email you can use to request it. In five years you still have those refs plus whomever you have charmed since. ![]() Good luck! If it helps every interview is experience. Try to breathe. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
