Congrats on the job! I am sure you will do a great job. Just make sure you listen carefully on the first day to all you have to do and don't worry too much. We all make some mistakes and especially when we are new to a job!
Good luck ![]()

I was terrified on my first day. I'm not good with people and am shy and introverted, but I decided to go in the deep end and work as a waitress - it wasn't great but that was 8 years ago. I'm still shy and still not so good with people, but in time I've learned at least a thing or two... and the first day is 8 years away - don't even remember it, despite it being the most harrowing experiencing of my life the few days before it came and passed
![]() In most places they don't expect you to get everything in the first day. Just listen and learn, as atomicc says. Mostly you learn from doing, which only comes with time. Stay as positive as you can and keep your chin up! |

Don't worry so much; they know you are "new" and it will take time to get use to working and learn the routine they have for the job they want you to do. They would not have hired you if they did not think you could do it well. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, remind yourself it is new to you and you are a beginner. I get a lot of help remembering when I am being introduced to so many people on the first day and forgetting names, etc., that I am only one relating to many and they are many relating to only one.

I'm also starting a job in about two weeks. I'm very nervous too but the advice here is good. We need to pay attention on our first days and don't worry about mistakes because we are human; we will make mistakes.

I just started a job about 6 weeks ago. I'm still doing new things to this day (they just put me on registers for the first time since training yesterday... scary!). I'm definitely anxious that I'll mess up (and I have, I forgot to clock out yesterday, oops!), but I have a good supportive leadership team that for the most part knows how to talk to me to get the best results. For example, I don't take criticism well, it tears me up and eats away at me, but positive reinforcement works wonders with me and now that they know that they use it. I am naturally shy/introverted, to an extreme, so I have to push myself out of that comfort zone constantly and put on a perky, outgoing personality. It's tiring, I'm wiped by the end of even a 4 hour shift, but my enjoyment in what I do gets me through it, even the 8 hour shifts. And when I start thinking too many negative thoughts I remind myself this is the first step on my career path and I just need to get through this for 6 more months before I take my next step. And then I'll start new again with all the same fears and anxiety!
Just remember, they'll teach you everything in training that you need to know, and there's no such thing as a stupid question. It's better to ask something that would seem obvious to others than not to and get it wrong. |

It may seem like people are jumping you at first but you'll be the new person so just take what everyone says like there trying to help you.

I think that the jitters really got the better of me the first day or two - but I think that once I realized that I COULD do this, I settled down
