I got a call from my head hunter last night about a job. It's a Staff Accountant position, which means I'll be under more stress than I am now. I'll be doing the month end close for a whole division, fixed assets, cost analysis, and other analysis. It's kinda crazy. For the past 2 years I've had really simple jobs and they have stressed me out. The job I have right now, I've just been doing accounts payable and accounts receivable. Really simple stuff.

I've been making crap wages for the past 2 years. Literally I'd be getting a $20k raise if I got this job. I've gotten used to being underpaid and haven't expected much money from my jobs.

I seriously don't know what to do. I know I'm going to do the interview if offered, but then there's the whole leaving the job I have now. I would hope that they would be understanding. I'd give them 2 weeks, so I could train someone.

Going on the interview if offered seems reasonable ... hopefully you will get a clearer picture of the job that will help you make your decision.

You can never know for sure whether a job is for you until you accept it and do it for a while.

Leaving any job (or anything for that matter) is hard. I resigned from a volunteer position yesterday. I had guilt pangs over it and I wasn't even getting paid!

Change takes courage ... but so does staying put when you are feeling the pull of something that you suspect isn't in your best interest.

Keep taking about it ... that is the way things become clear for me.

Thanks for this!

There is nothing wrong with pursuing the interview: you aren't marrying them, and this is only a commitment to yourself to find out more information about the opportunity and evaluate whether this is something you want to pursue further.

Check it out. If you are nervous about the actual interview itself, send me a PM. I'm a headhunter in the industrial sales & engineering worlds, but and I'd love to be there as a wall to bounce questions/ideas off of. I get excited about this stuff, and I'd to help out if I can.

The resignation process can be intimidating. Have you thought about what they would do when you tell them? How they'd react? If they'd try to get you to stay? 2 weeks is standard and I wouldn't give them less than that, but if you can visualize the scenario you might have a better idea about how to approach it.
