I'm off on Friday and Saturdays. The only thing I value more than my time off is making some extra money. So the day shift manager calls me on Saturday and asks if I would be willing to work Saturday night. I really don't want to work so I hem and haw. She tells me if you don't want to that's fine but you are truly my last shot. If you don't come in I don't know what we are going to do. So I think about it and finally tell her I could use the OT I'll come in. I come in and work my Saturday night shift. We even talk in the morning when she comes in. She thanks me profusely and I tell her again it's no problem I really could use the OT.

Fast forward to tonight. They change my schedule for this week and give me three days off! SO not only do I get screwed out of my OT but I don't even get a full 40 hours!! I was so furious I almost walked out as soon as I saw it.

Seriously?? I come in and work 6 freaking days for you people and not only do I not get any extra to show for it but I get my hours cut?!!!

I'm seriously thinking of going to college. I've researched some stuff and there are a TON of grants and scholarships I qualify for. Also my grandparents have said that if I would ever go to college they would pay half. So why not quit and do that instead? If after working here 13 years they feel it's ok to steal from me I see no reason not to leave them in the lurch!

I would go talk to the manager, see what is going on and tell her what you were expecting and what has happened and if she or the other manager(s) want your help in the future, it behooves them to play well with you!

Why not do some work and some school, see if it is for you. I got my first degree at a regular college and my second, online. The online stuff is way more interesting to me, not having to "go" and sit and be so lock-step. What are you thinking of studying?

I've always been interested in accounting. I know boring right?? But I love it! Did really well in it in HS but that was 20 years ago. But my cousin is a CPA and I've helped him at tax time get through when he was totally overwhelmed. He's also offered to talk to his boss about getting me hired on where he works. He said that they have a program to pay for your schooling BUT you have to sign a contract that you will work for them for X amount of time and you can't hire in with a direct competitor for X amount of years. Kinda leery of that.

Think I would prefer something online as well because being bipolar I don't always play well with others.

Going to talk to the manager that made the schedule when she gets here at 5:45. See if this was her doing or came down from inside. Really really really trying to get a grip before she gets here otherwise I could truly flipout on her.

No, I love accounting and did not find out until I was 41 :-) It took me a couple classes and thinking about it to realize I did not want to be a CPA though, then that I did not want to be an accountant, I just loved doing the problems! Turns out any "word" problems like that I love -- algebra, accounting, taxes, writing research papers, short stories or novels. . .

OMG, that was really horrible! No wonder you were their last resort -- they probably tried this trick on everyone else already and now people know not to come in... and now you are wise to that trick, too!

Trying an accounting degree sounds like a great idea! Like Perna, I thought I would like accounting and then changed my mind after a few classes Forensic accounting seems really interesting (and lucrative), though!

I've always wanted to go into accounting also so it doesn't sound weird at all. That is my hope that I can quit my job by the end of the year and go back get a degree in accounting and hopefully enjoy what I do. I hope you get to do something that makes you happy even if it means quitting your job and going to college.

The saddest part is I really like my job. Been here 13 years(in August) and this my favorite position I've held with the company. But by doing this they have violated my trust and as far as I'm concerned they stole from me. I'll stay until I get my ducks in row but I'm done.

Got into it bad with the day shift manager this morning. It was not pretty. I finally told her "Unless you want to have no choice but move to have me fired I suggest we end this conversation and you let me walk away. If not I'm going to snap and it's not going to be pretty because I'm about to use some very inappropriate language." We went to HS together so she knows my temper and my bipolar and that right now I'm unmedicated so she dropped it.

She took great offense to me telling her that the company stole from me. When I asked what would you call working six days, getting no extra time, not even getting a full 40 hours AND being told that you have to take a mandatory extra day off? If you had paid me I'd have gotten paid for 12 hours but you give me an 8 hour day off and that makes us even? If that's not stealing what is it? For some reason she couldn't come up with an answer other than I was "twisting the facts". So I asked "Which fact did I twist? What part of my statement was untrue in any way, shape or form?? She couldn't answer that either. Big surprise.
