I strongly fit the characteristics of having aspergers or mild autism.
I am very concerned that if i were to be assessed and then be officially diagnosed as having aspergers or mild autism that it could affect my career and job search. what are the pros and cons please advise. |

Hi, Wiz278, and welcome to Psych Central! I would think it would be good to know either way. Is that something you are required to tell potential employers? Maybe the folks in the Asperger's forum will know. Here's that link: http://forums.psychcentral.com/autis...gers-syndrome/.

It has been suggested that I get assessed multiple times. I haven't because I figure it's a bit late in life to make the types of changes that could've happened had I been diagnosed as a young child, and I've been this way for 26 years and have learned to manage. What difference would a diagnoses make now?

it's never a bad thing to get an assessment. it definitely won't hurt and you can surely benefit from being able to effectively treat something if you are diagnosed. Kudos for being brave enough to even consider it. Best of luck
