I wish I had kept tabs on how the weak points in my personality profile were influencing my career. Maybe I could have made some corrections. Now it is too late.

Sorry Cygnus to hear your job is adversely affected. Some people have setbacks and recover from them. Hope a way out of this predicament makes itself evident.

I don't know how I would feel in your shoes, but if I had ever accepted it was too late, I would have never completed my degree 20 years after starting it, or working in the field of my choice by finally overcoming my inability to communicate with people.

So in my life, whenever I hear "It is too late." I just shake my head and say "no it isn't!" And I then start working to overcome or appease the situation. It isn't easy, but never saying I quit makes anything possible, possible.

Here's an idea. Career success is more about playing to your strengths than shoring up weaknesses. We are who we are. Just make the most of whatever you have.
