Hi I am new here this is my first post here. I find most of my life issues and anxiety derives from work and job security. A little about me is. I work three jobs one full time 35 hours a week and two part times about 8-10 hours each a week. I am in the private security sector my full time job is top pay in the business just shy of 18$ hourly. My other two jobs are 14. My primary job is a contract I never see or hear from my bosses only if mistakes are made never praise. With that being said I always feel one day il get a call saying the contract was not renewed or I made some sort of mistake and get taken off the contract. We get calls and picked apart on some of the most minute details that will be fine one month and then not fine the next month. I have tailored my lifestyle around the wage ie rent car payments ect. How can I cope with dealing with this anxiety of loosing my job it eats me apart that I worry about it every day I cannot stop thinking about work even in my personal life and time off I think about work.

hi bigpun
it is easy to worry about job security in this day and age, so all you can do is to take measures to prepare should you be laid off. pack away money in savings and find ways to reduce your living expenses so you can survive should this happen. that is going to be the only way you will truly feel secure.

the only other thing you can do is practice mindfulness. imagine a door at the front of your mind and one at the back. when the worrisome thoughts come in see them like clouds floating thru and out the back door. give them no more merit but to escort them out the back of your mind because they are nothing more than thoughts.

welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Welcome to PC! I hope you find as much peace here as I have. I can totally relate. I was unemployed for 3months during the summer and it wrecked me financially and mentally. I also work at a job where the ax can fall at anytime making it very unnerving. I tell myself all the time that I can survive whatever comes at work, even though I don't really believe it. Just hearing the words can help me settle my nerves when I'm really freakin out. Good luck and remember -you can survive anything that comes to you at work!

Thank you for the support and such good feed back, my biggest thing I have been trying to do is build my nest egg that brings me to my next huge life issue. I have a 6 month English bulldog who has come with major vet bills as of next week she is hopefully her last surgery but as of then costing me upwards of 4000$ do between all of this and over working the last 8 months I feel like ive turned into a nervous wreck.

Welcome to PC Bigpun. It sounds like you have done an excellent job of managing your life ... finding good work, doing well at what you do, living within your means. I imagine you have good credentials and references so there is no reason to believe that someone who is currently managing their life and career so well would not find a way to work through a change in their employment status.

The biggest challenge for us all is learning to tune out the beliefs that aren't true and tune in to what is true. Maybe some counseling would be helpful.

This is a problem many people including myself struggle with. Most (if not all) of my anxiety comes from work, job security, money related.
Sounds like you are managing your finances very well. Having 2 part time jobs that pay 14 an hour is pretty good! And having a full time job that pays 18 an hour is even better!
You said you're in the private security sector? That's a good field to be in because if you have the experience, chances are you will always be able to find another job or one related to it.
Have you ever thought about branching out into becoming a cop? Usually they require no formal degree, they just put you through academy training if they offer you a job which I think is paid and its only a few weeks last I checked.
That way, maybe you will be able to afford to drop the other 2 jobs and only focus on one full time job that pays better.
I think cops make between $45,000-$80,000 depending on how far up the ranks you go.
There's also other security jobs in law enforcement such as correctional officer. You don't have to be on patrol if you don't want to you can just work in a security prison. Your experience in private security should make you a good candidate for that kind of work.

By the way (this is my personal opinion after having had lots of pets and family members who have worked in Veterinary offices before) this comment is about your new dog's $4,000 vet bills...make sure you get a second opinion if possible, make sure whatever surgery or medicine they say she needs is actually needed. Hope I don't offend any Veterinarians out there but those places really rack up outrageous vet bills for things that aren't life threatening at all. For example, we had a healthy pet that we would give regular check ups to, and every single time we left that office we were in debt. They're a business. Just keep that in mind.

Thank you cosmic rose. I'm up in Canada being a police officer was my main goal but correctional officer is now what I want for a career. It's very difficult to get in. I have made a goal for this year to be the year I actually send out applications across the country for it as in the province I am in jobs are washed up. I always want to apply for corrections jobs but when it comes down to filling out the application I look back at and never summit it. I feel like if I don't try I will never be denied and if I try and fail il lose all hope for a career. But like I said this year I plan on not making any excuses and send out the applications.
