Had an interview and the interviewer yesterday after 45 minutes said, "I think I already have all the things I needed to know from you. You are very professional. I will let HR know and they will get in touch with you. I still have a few candidates to interview (since he is based in a different country and will be going back to his destination actually today)". He said also that, we will have another talk if I make it to the shortlist.

Just have a difficult time reading if I did make it to his shortlist or not.

Any ideas?

GT2015, probably just have to wait. Does not sound like he was trying to convince you. It is tough to read it. Sounds like kind of an abrupt ending.

Would not stop looking. That interviewer could have just been taking an easy out. Depends on what they were looking for.

Was the expectation there that you would have an opportunity to ask questions? If not, I would be okay with it even though his behavior was unprofessional.

Yes he asked me in the end if I had questions and I asked just two questions. I sent him a thank you note on email afterwards. I texted HR this morning to ask for feedback, no reply, maybe too soon. Let's see next week. It's hard to tell since he had a poker face the entire time.

I agree that it's hard to tell. I also suggest you keep searching for other possibilities in case you don't make the short list. Hope all goes well.

Another way to look at this is do you think after the interview that this job is for you?? Sometimes we get so caught up in whether or not 'they' want us that we don't take the time to think deeply on whether or not a particular job would be best for us. That lack of consideration of ourselves can lead to undervaluing the skills and talents we have have to offer.

Thinking in terms of what is best for us helps put us a little more in control rather than thinking that we are at the mercy of 'someone' in HR. I realize most people need employment and the income but having a job that you are well-suited for and enjoy doing is a large aspect of a happy life.

I suggest you sit down and make a list of the skills, talents, values, and good qualities you have to offer any organization -- just do it as an exercise for you. Don't quit until you have exhausted every nook and cranny. You will be surprised to see the depth and quality of your assets on paper. If this company doesn't want them, someone else will.

Fit is important. I've been turned down for jobs because I would have needed to work with staff who were decidedly unprofessional and I would have lasted 5 minutes with them. You don't know the dynamic... From what he said... I would have the impression that he liked me well enough, he didn't rule me out, but he was still keeping his eyes out for someone who may have fit better.

I would be fine with it. The HR comment could very well be concerning a background check. If you pass then you probably move to round 2.

Is not the essence: He said also that, we will have another talk if I make it to the shortlist. They will make a shortlist after all the candidates have been interviewed, you may or may not be shortlisted. Be strong, cross legs and fingers - it is out of your hands for now.

It's the job for me in a sense that I've the skills for it. Quite similar from the last job I had wherein I was redundated. Just a different product/service. It's more technical since it's IT. Had 6 mos experience in IT before and had trouble with the jargons and terms.

This could also well be the case. I'm a salesperson but there are things difficult for me to learn and understand especially when it comes to IT, and since this is an IT co maybe he is also taking into consideration the lack of knowledge I have of it.

In that case, best wishes. I hope you advance in the interview process (and soon)!

Yeah, so it isn't really the job for you... Unless you get it in which case CONGRADULATIONS! and all that... But, if you don't, you can surely (honestly) console yourself with how it wasn't really the job for you..

Okay so yesterday I got a message from HR from one of the companies I applied in saying I passed and to send my payslips so they can make an offer. It's not the IT Sales job I was hoping but atleast it's a blessing.

Good deal. Get your counter offer ready! Extra pt if they refuse to budge on money
