So earlier this month Ive been laid off due a corporate merger... Ironically I was planning on leaving the job anyways because I had another one lined up in another state. But it's not move ready until later this summer. So now I'm stuck in limbo with bills that I need to pay while trying to find temporary work for a job I would only be working 4-8 weeks for...not to mention at a substantially lower wage.
I've already tapped what little resources I had because I was barely scraping by when I still had a job.

I'm lost, terrified and pretty much don't know what to do...

Hi. I don't really know if this will help anymore. If you call the places where you owe money, such as credit cards, they can change the amount you have to pay. In fact, the longer you go without paying, the closer you get to them drastically reducing what you owe.

All you do at first is call their bill pay line which hopefully has a human you can talk to, and explain your circumstances and tell them that you want to continue paying, but not at the regular amount. They will be relieved to know that you'll still pay something. What you decide you can pay is up to you and the cc companies. I wish you well.

Go get unemployment. Go get food stamps. Get your resume printed and in email form. Most states have a job placement service - sign up. Sign up at temp agencies. Get dressed up in casual work attire (look professional) take your printed resume with you and go to the mall and walk around (may help ease stress) see if any shops or department stores are hiring. Start filling out applications. Are you on face book, or linkedin? Start reaching out to your networks and let them know your available for employment. Don't tell anyone you will be moving as they will not hire you AND you never know your plans could change or get delayed. Go on Indeed, Simply Hired, and Monster.com, craigslist, and start filling out applications. You may be looking at minimum wage jobs, but at least it is something. See if your unemployment benefits would be more or less than 40 hours a week at minimum wage. Some ideas of immediate employment -- Restaurants (servers, hostess, etc.) Cable TV companies always need CSR's and billing reps. Grocery stores (checkers, baggers) etc. Department stores, If you're good in sales or want to give it a try - Car dealerships. Start making a list of places you can go seek employment. Make a list of your priorities so you stay organized. When something like this happens its easy to get frazzled. Stay calm and remember it will all work out.
