So today I had yet another wierd day at work. So many in a row.

This lady calls in for a product quote, which I promptly and professionally provide. I go over everything in the contract as I do with everyone. She agrees to the terms. I tell her I need to take payment to get this product order issued and she agrees and provides me her credit card number. Before I hit the issue button I confirm the issue date and the order is processed.

When done she gets flustered and tells me she didn't know she was making a payment!!!

What??? I mean come on lady really?

Next, the system generates documents for her to sign and I send it over to her. She makes a post order change before signing which I process the change.

After the order is complete our system doesn't generate "new sales" paperwork for a post order change. Since the paperwork was generated before she made the change she doesn't want to sign the paperwork because it doesn't reflect her change. Okay whatever.

I tell her the only way I can do that is to handwrite the paperwork that will reflect her post order change and she agrees to sign that.

Then she says she wants confirmation that the change actually was made. So I email my processing department and they email me back confirming the change and I forward that email to her.

Then she writes me back saying she doesn't want to sign anything because she's uncomfortable now. And accuses me of processing her order without her knowing. Really? Nah... Come on lady.. Then she rants on about how she wants to cancel.

She calls into the company customer service to cancel her order and the customer service agent manages to save her from jumping off the ledge.

Then she emails me back and said she's changed her mind and she's not cancelling her order, but still request system generated paperwork reflecting her change before she signs.

I tell her that I'm so sorry she's uncomfortable and doesn't want to sign the paperwork but she only has two options -- sign the pre-purchase system generated paperwork without her post order change ... or sign the hand written purchase paperwork with the change.

Well she's uncomfortable with both options and requests a different agent. Oh God!

I tell her that I'm so sorry she's uncomfortable and I find a co-worker who's willing to take her on as a client. However, my coworker says "I don't know if I want her she sounds like a nut case". He tells me that he'll just have to tell her the same thing I did. Well he agrees to help her and I email my co-workers contact details to her.

Well.. Next, she sends me an email and CC's my coworker so now that we're both involved. Oh lord!

She rants in her email about how she wants to make everything efficient and get this done in a timely fashion. Blah. Blah. Blah..

Really Lady?? Really??

Just sign the friggen paperwork! - I didn't say that but I sure felt like it.

Then after all of her accusations, chewing me out, I get one final email from her at the end of the night with a total 180 and she says: "Have a nice night!"

I shook my head in bewilderment. Feeling frazzled and down, I left the twilight zone to head home to normalcy.

Ugh!

^ Sales ...
That said though, I'm very ethical with everyone. I don't have a dishonest bone in my body. I treat people the way I want to be treated - With respect, dignity, and utmost care and conscientiousness.

My coworker laughed when he heard the whole thing and said I should have told her this sarcastically ...

" Oh I'm so sorry ma'am for reaching through the phone and making you take out your credit card. I'm so sorry for moving your lips to read your number to me, and making you to say YES when I confirmed we were processing your order today. I'm so sorry ... I'll take responsibility for all your actions and psychosis".

Of course I would never say that. But how true.

Interestingly she is a regional manager for a big organization. Going back to what we talked about in my previous post regarding.. How do unstable people become managers?

Sales. No wonder. That is a stressful job. What you describe dealing with is what I would expect in your field. I think it is one reason many people cannot do it long term.
Sounds like you are doing well, but need to give yourself a break, and an outlet. You likely often deal with people when they are not especially happy/feeling in control/stressed---
