Does anyone know what being a special agent is like? And what it takes to get there?
Thank you in advance!

Yes I know many "special agents" I am not one-- assuming your talking about FBI or DEA (federal agent) etc. It is a lot. Probably 4 to 6 years as a cop and detective. Or military. Most likely a law degree.

It might be a LOT more boring that you might think. A lot of paper work. Lots of late nights and early mornings BUT, you get a great benefits package and likely early retirement (54).

Check out their website. My son was interested in being a psychologist profiler and was looking at internships, but never contacted them.

I think you need to have a bachelors degree in something they can use ie criminal justice, psychology, forensic science, biology, computer science, ect. and get admitted to the training program. Bonus points for military or police experience.

If you want to be an FBI agent that gets the good postings I would get a law degree from a top school and graduate with honors. That way if it does work out you have something to fall back on. Any of the other agencies would consider a lawyer from a top school or you could just practice law. Another good agency you might like is the US Marshals' Service which I think isn't quite so degree oriented but still finds and trains good people who can be in the thick of amazing things.

I think the US Marshals require a bachelors degree too.
